How advanced were the Romans and the ancients? Maybe they had cars. In 100 AD there was a coin minted to celebrate the making of the first highway in Rome. This coin shows the Roman emperor Trajan driving a car with his hand on a steering wheel and he is wearing a seat belt. This, without a doubt, is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Any numismatist will tell you that the coin does not depict an automobile. If the Romans had cars, then what is the Latin word for car? How did this knowledge get lost? Religious zealots are usually not Luddites after all, and considering how addicted to cars and fossil fuels in general modern Christian fundies are, it makes no sense that the people who burned down the Library of Alexandria would have destroyed all knowledge of producing cars.
And why stop there? If the Romans allegedly had cars, then that means that they understood the properties of the internal combustion engine. This would also mean that they had had steam power for quite some time, so why are there absolutely no archaeological remains of a modern city? Hell, if they were modern in ancient times, as you seem to think, then they most likely would have had the printing press, too, so the destruction of one library would not have set humankind back a thousand years.
And at this point this is practically a footnote, but Rome was not Egypt. They were not even contemporary. Even if we accept your frankly outlandish notion that the Romans had motor cars, the Pyramids were built 2000 years before then. That does not in any way imply that the Egyptians had advanced technology.
I've seen pictures of the coin you speak of, and Trajan is NOT driving a car. And really, why would people hide the existence of an invention that made the lives of so many people easier and better? For funsies?
Not only did they have cars, but they had cars built on exactly the principles upon which modern cars are built? That is, all the metallurgy needed, all the advances in making rubber for tyres - nobody wants to go at more than like ten miles an hour on solid wheels over cobbles. No one.
Not only that, but notorious record-keepers either failed to keep any records of having technology around the same level as the 1950s, or destroyed all records for some unknown, insane reason. And then they went out and either hid or buried all trace of any kind of evidence that they had this technology - even down to hiding the thin layers of pollution left in rock strata there'd be, and almost certainly are from our current love affair with oil.

Sweet Christ, don't go there! Conspiracy Theorists can talk FOREVER about "supressed technologies" that don't exist and the people that they say are supressing them. It's like asking a Truther "why attack the towers?" or a Birther "why would someone hide the fact they weren't born here?"
