Pre-Islamic Arabia

As we learn about the origins of Islam a question needs to be aksed. “Why is Allah never defined in the Qur’an? The reasoning is clear – the Arabs already knew who Allah was. Muhammad was raised in the religion of the moon-god al-ilah or Allah. But he went one step further than his fellow pagan Arabs. While they believed that Allah, the moon-god, was the greatest of all gods and the supreme deity in a pantheon of deities, Muhammad decided that Allah was not only the greatest god but the only god.

Nabonidus,3 the last king of Babylon, built Tayma as a center of moon-god worship. Tayma is a desert oasis in Saudi Arabia. In the center of the oasis is a large 2,500 year old well called Bir Haddaj. It is referred to in Isaiah 21:14 “The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they prevented with their bread him that fled.”

Segall stated, “South Arabia’s stellar religion has always been dominated by the Moon-god in various variations.” Many scholars have also noticed that the moon-god’s name Sin is a part of such Arabic words as Sinai, and the wilderness of Sin. When the popularity of the moon-god waned elsewhere, the Arabs remained true to their conviction that the moon-god was the greatest of all gods. While they worshipped 360 gods at the Kabah in Mecca, the moon-god was the chief deity. Mecca was in fact built as a shrine for the moon-god.

The Re-Molding of the Religion of Sin

Some time ago I came across information which suggested that Islam was created by the Papacy. At first I was very sceptical but as a researcher I was intriged enough to do some reading. From that cursory investigation I discovered that there is ample amount of information to merit additional investigation.

During Islam’s initial expansion, Roman Catholic communities and churches did not undergo any persecution, attacks or attempts to convert them to Islam. In fact, in the fifth year of Muhammad’s mission, persecution came against his followers because they refused to worship the various idols in the Kaaba. Under Muhammed’s direction they fled to Abysinnia where Negus, the Roman Catholic king accepted them.

Upon closer examination, there are a number of similarities between Islam and Catholicism:

• The Hijab and Chandor of Muslim women are reminescient of the Catholic habit that Nuns wear.
• Catholic and Muslims both use prayer beads.
• The cresent moon symbol is used by both groups as well.
• During Islam’s early period, Muslims would perform the salat ritual prayer facing Jerusalem, not Mecca.

Literary evidence is also suggestive of Papal involvement in nascent Islam, which at a minimum, suggest that the Papacy was instrumental in aiding the formation of the Muslim faith.

According to Martin Luther, St. Augustine stated that Arianism, a belief deemed heretical by Rome which advocated that Jesus was not of the same essence as the Father (God), was instrumental in the creation of Islam:

“Arius’ punishment in hell becomes greater everyday, as long as this error lasts. For Mohammed came out of this sect.”
St Augustine, a notable Church Father, was once the Bishop of North Africa and became very adept at making Arabs converts to Catholicism, including entire tribes. It was a among these converted tribes that the concept of an Arab prophet developed.
