If 'modern' atheist people are so smart and 'ancient' god-fearing people were so backward, why do WE live in a pervasively poisoned world?

Ancient people lived in a pristine natural environment, were not threatened by overpopulation, nuclear weapons, tides of lethal sexual diseases and incurable cancers, gender confusion, inability to survive the presence of basic food staples like wheat and milk, and didn't exist in perpetual states of war disguised as various forms of 'futuristic progress.' They were also smart enough to 'repent' of their course when obvious tragedy struck, rather than use 'spin' to find a way to continue down it even further. Are 'we' really 'homo sapiens' the 'wise ones?'

They also barely lived for more than a few decades,their lifes were short and rough, and we don’t even know much more about their lifes, so were do you get your information from? Out of your ass, I see.

Quite a case of believing that a time before you were born was The Good Old Days.

“In days of old, when knights were bold …” and life was really shitty.

As already stated above by others, life was dominated by an 80% infant mortality rate, early death for most others, hunger, injustice, pain, and suffering. Women were baby machines, 98% of people were peasants whose only possession in life was the shirt on their back.

Cancer? It’s been proven that cancer has been around since forever. They recently showed that an Egyptian Pharao died of cancer (I’d have to Google the name).

The ONLY thing on that list* that is new, rather than being as old as humanity itself, is nuclear war - and even then, war atrocities, genocide and wars of extermination are not even remotely new evils, either. But environmental destruction, overpopulation, pandemics (including veneral diseases - syphilis), “decadence”, perpetual wars, phony casus belli, politicians exploiting tragedies to further their own agendas? None, absolutely none of these are even remotely modern problems.
What has changed is that,
1. The scale of many of these problems has risen to world-wide threats due to technological growth and global expansion.
2. In stark contrast to your thesis, a lot of these problems were only RECOGNISED as problems in “modern” times, due to science improving our understanding of the issue, advancements in ethics and philosophy, learning to appreciate what we already lost, or any combination of these factors.

Because they didn't have the technology to "tame" nature. I watched a documentary that said Greeks really didn't like nature that much. The city was the place to be.

Pretty sure that's not true. Poor people having lots of kids and cramped apartments was a thing during the Roman Empire. Why do you think bread and circuses was a thing?

Because they died off young if they couldn't consume those things. That's why you didn't hear of it. Experimenting with diet for health reasons was probably still a thing though. Epicurus thought a life in moderation was the best lived life.

They were constantly threatened by overpopulation, as they had around ten kids in small huts, but “luckily”, less than half of the children usually lived to adulthood.

Sexual diseases were rampant back then too, as were incurable cancers. You know why it’s called cancer? Because it feels like a crayfish is eating your insides. They had no idea what it was, but they died from it anyway.

Gender differences (not confusion; you are the confused ones) have always existed too. In ancient times, these people were often holy people, shamans.

The ability to drink milk as adults is the anomaly, stupid.

The people back then who had coeliac disease probably died early, nobody knew why. So many died early then, it was just the way life was.

I don’t know about you, but the rest of us are Homo sapiens sapiens.

The reason why cancer rates have increased is that they are usually geriatric disorders, illnesses that occur in senescence. This is also true for things like Alzheimer. However, back in the Good Old Days, with its lack of hygiene, horrible medicine and normalised violence, few people lived to die of old age - though saying that the average life time was in the 20s is… half-true. Adults usually reached their fifties, and of course, there were always people who lived much longer, even into their 90s. The reason the average life expectation was so low? Because of IMMENSE INFANT MORTALITY!
But of course, people who did manage to live a long life could get cancers of old age, and sometimes, cancer strikes long before one’s natural lifespan runs out. Do you know where the words “cancer” and “carcinoma” come from? From the Latin and the Ancient Greek word for “crab”, because the physicians of antiquity thought it resembled a crab, with the tumor as the “body” and the blood vessels as “legs”.
