It could have began with colonization, which brought higher promiscuity and prostitution to areas where SIV had jumped species through "bushmeat activities". The most common ancestor of the HIV-1 virus dates back to around 1910. It can also have began with non-sterile reuse of single-use-syringes in vaccinations in Africa after WWII.
It SPREAD in the homosexual community in the 80's, though, that's clear. It happened BECAUSE OF the bigotry and persecution against especially male homosexuals, forcing them to have pretend-marriages with women while seeking satisfaction in hurried encounters with strangers.
One fact is sure - today AIDS is mostly spreading through fundamentalist areas in Africa. Curse from God? You decide!
AIDS is no longer the death-sentence it once was, thanks to modern science. As long as you get proper medication, you can live a relatively long and productive life, free of the disease.
Homosexuality is only more open nowadays. As lesbianism has been (slightly) less persecuted, perhaps more genes/traits carrying it have survived through the centuries.
Pedophilia/hebephilia/ephebophilia and pornography are more closely related, than lesbianism and pornography are.
