We told our daughter several years ago that if she went down the medicalization route that we were not going to continue to pay for college. She’s been on T for a year and a half, and we let that slide. But now that she’s done “top surgery’ and texted to say that her legal name change is in process. We’ve had enough. We refuse to subsidize this madness any longer.

I wish to remain in contact with her but at what point will our boundaries as parents be respected? So many of you have no contact and my heart aches for you when I read your stories. That very real possibility scares the hell out of me. Thanks for reading my rant.

I don't typically comment on my own posts but I have to this time. "we told her we weren't going to continue paying for college" followed by "I wish to remain in contact with her" is BONKERS. These people have no self-awareness. Yeah, I bet your kid's chomping at the bit to have a relationship with the people who forced him to choose between his happiness and his education.

They set limits, but fail to enforce them. Even if I disagree with their limits, good parents are consistent and keep their promises.
These people have no self-awareness.
These parents act like spoiled children: "I'm going to do whatever I want, no matter what you say! But I expect you to treat me just the same!" They aren't consistent themselves (see above), but when they do enforce their limits, they expect their child to still be indulgent towards them.

Oh, fuck off, you selfish, entitled, narcissistic psychopaths!
I thank the one who caused you to impotently seethe so much like the spoiled brat you actually are, they’ve proven themselves to be infinitely more mature than you’ll ever be OP.
After all: is your child the one who needs to ‘Rant’…?!
“We told our daughter several years ago that if she went down the medicalization route that we were not going to continue to pay for college. She’s been on T for a year and a half, and we let that slide.”
So, he called your bluff?
“But now that she’s done “top surgery’ and texted to say that her legal name change is in process. We’ve had enough.”
Oooh, poor you.
“We refuse to subsidize this madness any longer.”
But, is he asking you to pay for the transition?
If not, you’re not subsidizing ‘the madness,’ you’re just holding his college fund hostage.
“I wish to remain in contact with her”
Why? For what possible end? So you can keep telling him he’s wrong?
“but at what point will our boundaries as parents be respected?”
Your boundaries are how HE has to live in order to receive your love/support?
If you’re going to make those a conditional transaction, I’d be over the horizon like a shot. You MIGHT see him at your gravesite.
“So many of you have no contact and my heart aches for you when I read your stories.”
Aches for the other intolerant bigots, not for the kids?
“That very real possibility scares the hell out of me.”
Not enough to make you reconsider…anything, though?
at what point will our boundaries as parents be respected?
Your boundaries over what gender your kid is allowed to be? Do you even know how fucking monstrous you sound?
Fucking abusers get ahold of the language that survivors use and they ruin it for everyone.

And if they cause his early death they will act clueless and continue to think they are the real victims. SMH
Oh my, looks like somebody wants to have their bigot cake and eat it at the same time! Gonna have to decide if actually being able to talk and interact with your son is more important than your views on his medical procedure, I’m afraid.
Hell, I’m a trans child of some very supportive parents and honestly there is nothing better than having a loving and affirming family who stuck by you through. Unless you’re a serious case of a sociopath, you’ll real miss your son when he goes no contact and looks like you’re even aware of the fact.
Confused?
