A Saudi Arabian historian trying to justify the nation's ban on female drivers says women who drive in other countries such as the United States don't care if they're raped and that sexual violence "is no big deal to them."
Saleh al-Saadoon claimed in a recent TV interview that women can be raped when a car breaks down, but unlike other countries, Saudi Arabia protects its women from that risk by not allowing them to drive in the first place, according to a translation posted online by the Middle East Media Research Institute.
"They don't care if they are raped on the roadside, but we do," al-Saadoon said on Saudi Rotana Khalijiyya TV.
“Hold on. Who told you they don’t care about getting raped on the roadside?” asked the host, a woman who is not named in the transcript.
“It’s no big deal for them beyond the damage to their morale,” al-Saadoon replied. “In our case, however, the problem is of a social and religious nature.”

Folks, look up the video of the interview that you can find on various pages, it even gets better than this.
The female host handles the situation brilliantly, first questioning the guys stupid thesis about the rape and when he later suggests to hire foreign females as drivers for Saudia Arabian women to protect them from being raped by male chauffeurs, she openly laughes in his face, followed by a facepalm.
All hail and high-fives to that journalist!
So women driving leads them to being raped.
Uh huh. Yeah, that's why I don't believe in organized religion.
Yeah, that's why most Western women carry cell phones, have at least a rudimentary knowledge of self defense (i.e. we know where to plant a knee if necessary, many carry mace, or handguns where legal (and some places, not so legal), and we try to stick to well-lit, populated areas-because we don't care about getting raped.
Also, cars are a lot better built these days, and don't break down as often as they used to. And when it does happen, as stated above, most women have a cell phone and can have help there in minutes. An increasing number of women can do some of the repairs, like changing a tire, themselves. And the few times when I did have to rely on a stranger for help, he actually helped me, instead of raping me.
In other words, your argument is invalid.
Obviously this guy has never been outside his country.
Alternatively, given the attitudes of the government toward women, there'd be good reason to think there would be ulterior motives behind the ban (and there most likely are).
Uh...huh...so that's why Todd Akin and Murdoch are now sitting pretty on Capitol Hill? What? They're not? They got voted out of office and sat around with a dumb look on their face trying to figure out what went wrong? Oh.
And I love how no matter where they're from or what religion they follow, fundies are all willing to tell other people they don't know their own thoughts. As if they know complete strangers better than those strangers know themselves.
You don't automatically get raped or subjected to sexual violence when you drive, dingbat!
Sexual violence is a very big deal to us, that's why it's a very serious crime, and why we prosecute the perpetrator, not the victim like you do.
Women can also be raped when a bike breaks down, or when they are walking, or when they ride a car that someone else is driving. Why not refuse to allow men to drive instead, if they automatically rape any woman whose car has broken down? Again; prosecute the perpetrator, not the victim!
In the video of this interview, he actually gets around to the thing that REALLY gets him upset: family "honor". No, not concern for the woman, concern for the MAN of the family! Beneath contempt.
There was a thing I saw the other day about one of the middle-eastern high poo-bahs (sorry, don't remember which one) who was appalled when he visited Balmoral and Queen Elizabeth did the driving to show him around. His discomfiture was entertaining, to say the least!

Hey, Marjan, I think you have a fan.
So women aren't allowed to drive because if the car breaks down, they'll get raped?
Is there something special about the situation of a woman driving a car that breaks down that makes men suddenly want to rape her? What if she has a male relative in the car with her when it breaks down? You Saudis let women out of their prisons homes only if they're accompanied by male relatives, for their protection or some such bullshit, right? Won't her male relative protect her in this situation too? Or does his protection also break down with the car?
What if she's riding a bicycle that breaks down? Does that count? A bike's not a car.
What if her car breaks down and there's no one else around? Will flocks of men suddelny rush to the area like moths to a bright lamp at night?
What if her car breaks down and there are only other women around? Will the women rape her?
Your logic is almost as hilarious as it is fucking retarded. Almost.

I wonder how hard his head would explode if he knew she used to be in the army as a jeep repairprincess?
@Insult to Rocks
"Are there just...patrolling motorcycle gangs full of rapists on Saudi roads? "
Yeah, it's something like that. M.E. men tend to rape women if nobody is there with a uniform and a big stick to make them behave.
@nazani14
"So make a law that requires public castration for rapists. Should fit right in with your extant laws. "
Only if they can find something in the Koran that allows it. If not they will have to content themselves with flogging the rapee.

Hey, Saudi Arabian Ray Comfort, you didn't fucking answer the question, shit stain.
Sharia requires a rape to be witnessed by four "good Muslim" men in order to convict and punish the rapist. Western women only have to call the cops and give their own account. Looks like your claim of protecting women is all bullshit.
Of course, if SA were banning people of a certain race or religion from driving, going out without certain attire, or any of the other myriad things Saudi women are banned from doing, they'd be getting all kinds of sanctions for human rights abuses, but it's only women, so, meh. We wouldn't want to be too intolerant of their "culture".

Way to go not giving any sort of ansver, al-SaaLoon.

Anti-rape campaigns are an infidel led plot to deceive the good Wahhabis of Saudi Arabia into thinking that women are not second class citizens.
[Sharia requires a rape to be witnessed by four "good Muslim" men]
*If one is a Jew, Christian, or other religion, Disqualified.
*If one hasn't been diligent about adhering to the proper rituals (Pray five times Daily, Fasting on Friday, etc) Disqualified.
And Even then we can shift the Goalposts with the Sunni/Shia Dichotomy.
So there's three tricks you can use to bypass the Sharia Requirement.
@The Reptilian Jew:
"Way to go not giving any sort of ansver, al-SaaLoon. "
It actually is an answer in his own demented fundie mind.
Saudi Arabie is a muslim country, where men don't go on orgies of raping killing and drug using because they have moral standards from the only possible source, Korangod. Infidel countries like the USA lack this moral standard so there is no moral outrage when these things happen, whereas if they happened in S.A. they would be a violation of moral standards and the cause of much anguish.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
