If you think "these institutions of 'higher learning' are becoming a real threat", then you're the one who is historically illiterate, dearie. Universities have often been accused of being threats, breeding grounds for revolutionaries, arrogant, etc. But all they do is to supply knowledge to young adults, who come out pretty much how they went in, just a bit older and more knowledgeable.
And you're an expert at coping with adversity, right?
Most of them are in the private sector. Why do you hate capitalism? It is of course the keen understanding of actual history you'd learn in higher institutions they don't like. The conservative "American Exceptionalism" is a collection of myths of an America colonization that was fair to everyone and invented all sciences and democratic ideas under a benevolent Christian structure.
They've infiltrated public and highschool textbooks with a lot of their lovely clean pioneer tales. It's bullshit and they wanna keep feeding this myth to their children.
Under Conservative agendas it's been systematically removing all wrongdoing in America since the first landings of the magic ships from Heaven to the American shorelines. Make America great again is an appeal to this myth of nationwide wonderous white Christmases and June Cleaver households.

Hate to sound preachy but that depends a lot on how well funded your school is and if it is well funded you still might lose out if you got in on a NCAA scholarship.
Saw a special on Last Week Tonight that prompted my interest then did a little independent reading. What I found out horrifies me. The whole thing is a scam designed with surgical precision to use false hope to keep kids poor and in the ghetto. And the shoddy education, grade inflation, and deliberate roadblocks to financial gain are all spun as negatives working against student athletes - especially if those students happen to be black - rather than the system that pulls the wool over their eyes and sucks them dry. It is nothing short of diabolical genius and I'd much like to meet the monster who thought of it so I can spend an hour telling them why if there is a Hell they have surely earned their place in the coldest depths reserved for betrayers.
And if you're not stuck in that deliberate cycle of perpetual assfucking corner-cutting with outsourced lowest-bidder testing that nobody had the good sense to proofread before approving for exams will knock students for a loop. There are things you don't half-ass. I would think an investment in the nation's future should be one of those things.
