And God also wanted the death penalty for such innocuous things as working on the Sabbath and eating shellfish, so why aren't you so worked up over that? Oh, right, you pick & choose.

God (through Jesus) also commanded that if we are compelled to sin, we should cut off the offending body part rather than continue (Mat. 18:8-9, Mat. 5:30, Mark 9:43). I don't exactly hear Mr. Anderson calling out to his congregation about crippling themselves, blinding themselves, or cutting out their own tongues, now do I?
The same god ordered genocides against unbelievers and told, that you have to murder yourown family members if they believe in other gods and to killall members of a town, if they harbored a preacher of a foreign religion without stoning him.
Well, if you like the rules from the old testament, then emigrate to an islamist country. Most of the rules that you have under the shariah are equivalent to the rules you can find within the old testament

1)Having the death penalty for crimes that don't involve murder encourages rapists, kidnappers, etc. to kill their victims, to keep them from talking to the police. They have nothing to lose.
2) The difference between rapist and homosexuals is that gays aren't victimizing ANYONE.
3) No, being gay is not infectious, just as being attracted to blondes or redheads isn't contagious. I have numerous friends and acquaintances who are either gay or bisexual, and I've yet to catch teh ghey. None of them have caught teh straight from me either.
4) Homosexuals had nothing to do with the fall of any empire. Poor military decisions, unjust leadership, etc. always factored in.
