[Kerwin points out that the number of troop deaths in Iraq doesn't seem that bad when you compare it to AIDS, Cancer, and Alcohol related deaths.]
That is 857 killed each year or less than 6 of every 1000 who go there. We loose more Americans by HIV/Aids 14000 which alone which is often spread for just the sake of pleasure. I will not mention the deaths due to alcohol and tobacco which far outpace HIV/Aids and are also lost to personal pleasure. At least those lives lost and Iraq are attempting to obtain natural liberties for others. I am glad France intervened in our own Revolution war.

Nah, Archangel, the same thing happened before in Vietnam. Only American soldiers died for some reason.
;-)
Does this mean we can start any number of wars, so long as each war has a lower death toll than some other cause?
And your point is ... the war can go on because more are dying from diseases? Why won't you mention death numbers due to alcohol and tobacco? Mention your sources too, while you're at it.
All these lives lost to personal pleasure. Maybe we should pass a law making ALL personal pleasures illegal ... they are (according to Kermits invisible numbers) more dangerous than being involved in a war.
Well, bear in mind that cancer is an illness that has nothing to do with the way of life you bear, it´s chance, and that the incidence of AIDS and alcohol related deaths is very low, compared with the rest of the population. So, what are you implying?, that it´s ok exposing kids as far as 18 to an useless death, based on a lie because, after all, they´re going to die anyway?, wasn´t it be a good reason to legalise killing, according to your logic?
Forget the fact that deaths from a botched war based on faulty "intelligence" has shit to do with deaths from HIV, Alcohol/Tobacco related deaths. What pissed me off was implying drug addiction is a "personal pleasure". If you know anyone with a drug addiction serious enough to cause death you would know that they are not finding much pleasure in their drug use at that point.
The best part of this idiots post is "I am glad France intervened in our own Revolution war". As if we sent our military into Iraq to aid in some sort of revolution.
I hate to tell you KB, but you could actually smoke in Iraq before Georgie boy went stomping in. Hell, you could even drink if you chose it, it wasn't motherfucking Saudi Arabia - you know, the place with old planes that terrorists use as a training school and home of the Bin Laden family... Lucky for them they've got 3/4 of a trillion dollars invested in Wall St isn't it.
I think the U.S. population is about 300,000,000 (forgive me, I'm Canadian), so let's presume his statistics are right...
Troops: 6/1,000
HIV/AIDS: 14,000/300,000,000 - 0.0467/1,000
And what about all the poor civilians?
So how come we're spending all this money to create more deaths, when we could be using it to prevent them?
I am glad France intervened in our own Revolution war.
Yeah, but France didn't come over here and start the war ...
That's a good point, KB. That gives us quite a bit of leeway. I guess we should start several more pointless wars, and much bigger wars, to really give those sick people a run for their money.
Um... unless what I learned in science class is wrong, we don't actually *lose* people to HIV/AIDS. Instead, people die from other diseases, because AIDS lowers their immune deficiency to a point that they can't fight the infection?
<<Um... unless what I learned in science class is wrong, we don't actually *lose* people to HIV/AIDS. Instead, people die from other diseases, because AIDS lowers their immune deficiency to a point that they can't fight the infection?>>
No, you're correct. In theory, one can live until death-by-natural-causes with HIV. The problem is HIV slowly dismantles your immune system to the point where even a common cold can be flat out deadly.
That is 857 killed each year or less than 6 of every 1000 who go there.
Ah, it's acceptable to kill "only" 857 American soldiers each year, then?
Well, that and torture a couple hundred thousand innocent civilians?
You're a monster!
We loose more Americans by HIV/Aids 14000 which alone which is often spread for just the sake of pleasure.
Ah, so killing people for no reason is OK because people die of diseases. Thank you. Please hand in your human species membership card at the door.
I will not mention the deaths due to alcohol and tobacco which far outpace HIV/Aids and are also lost to personal pleasure.
The number of deaths from alcohol and tobacco far outpace the one death that would occur if I killed you. Based on your argument, I presume you wouldn't object to my killing you.
At least those lives lost and Iraq are attempting to obtain natural liberties for others.
No, they're not. You may have noticed that the Iraqis don't actually want us there. You may have noticed that they're shooting at us. Our soldiers in Iraq are not dying to liberate anyone. They're dying in order to steal Iraq's oil and take over their country.
I am glad France intervened in our own Revolution war.
Same here, but you can't compare that to Iraq. Our soldiers are in Iraq uninvited, because a greedy and deluded president managed to trick the country into thinking Iraq posed a threat to us. Despite the constant insistance that we would be greeted as "liberators," we are and have always been seen as the invaders that we are.
Our own revolutionary war was started at home. France only intervened at our request , and even then, we had to beg them to intervene.
Kerwin, losing 857 soldiers isn't that much in comparison to losing 14,000 Americans.
Spending $40 on a toaster that doesn't work isn't that much in comparison to spending $1,000 on a new computer.
Try 80,000
...and climbing thanks to the surge. No, those are only civilians before you ask.
Also, AIDS wouldn't be an issue if your fucking patron saint Reagan had done something about it, not to mention that the rightwing alcohol and tabacco industries are based in... you should have guessed it, the Bible Belt.
Oh and one last bit. Yeah France intervened in our Revolutionary War. They intervened . They didn't start it, moron.
Confused?
