At the Values Voter Summit this weekend, vendors sold an item called “Obama Waffles” featuring a racist cartoon of Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) on the box front — with “popping eyes and big, thick lips” — and another image of him wearing an Arab-like headdress on its top flap. Its creators, Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss, said it was meant as “political satire,” and sold the box for $10 from a booth at the Family Research Council event. CNN’s Lou Dobbs stopped by the booth and exclaimed, “My wife will love this!” A photo shows Dobbs with a box of the mix in his hand.

Are you for real? Bush is an idiot. This is something we have learned over the last 8 fucking years. If you want to pick at Obama, fine. But do it based on performance and his ability to string words together into coherent sentences. This waffle horseshit has nothing to do with anything about Obama other than his color.
FUCK! This once-great country is getting dumber by the day...
At first glance, looking at the box on that link, I just don't see any overt racism. It just looks like a caricature of Barrack Obama. The top of the box seems to portray Barack Obama as a Muslim; he has a headdress on and a little arrow says "point box toward Mecca for tastier waffles".
It's not really racist, because Muslims don't comprise a "race" (whatever that might be), but it definitely panders to those out there who are stupid enough to believe that
1. That Barrack Obama is in fact Muslim, and prejudiced enough to believe that
2. Muslims are uniformly dangerous people.
@Osiris...it is different, in that the statement "Barrack Obama is a Muslim" is not a matter of opinion but a statement of fact, while the statement "Bush is stupid" is a matter of opinion. [In my opinion, Bush is abysmally stupid, but then again its just an opinion]. It is also different, in that no single group of people is unfairly maligned by the statement "Bush is stupid" the way that protraying Obama as a Muslim maligns Muslims.
The Muslim stuff is racist, or at the very least highly questionable, but the other stuff is an overreaction. Relax, you guys,.
I dunno Osiris, how many 'Bush is stupid' cartoons did you see that were fairly racist?
I think to go as far as the bs just shows how scared and desperate republicans are getting. For a group that has so much faith, they sure show how little they believe in it
So, you can have racist Obama waffles, but if I were to say that Bush was an idiot, you would all run around like chickens with your heads cut off.
I wouldn't have said there was anything strictly racist about this until the end of the video clip where they read the little 'rap' on the side of the box.
I still reeeeally want a box though, just because I like odd novelty items like this and possibly because it'll give me something to eat after Palin takes over for a dead Mccain and turns the world into a post apocalyptic wasteland full of radioactive mutants killing each other for food.
Fundie kooks like W., Palin, et. al, are one reason I'm no longer a Republican. This is one reason I'm glad I'm no longer a Republican.
I don't see how being Republican makes one fundie. Meh.
Really? You don't see it? Really?! You must be legally blind, then, because to deny that the Republican party is run by dominionists and other fundamentalists is not only mind-boggling, it's dishonest and stupid.
The Muslim reference isn't racist, but it may be described as prejudiced against people of the Muslim religion. On the other hand, it may just be a jab at the rumors about Obama's religion that have been floating around since the primaries.
I'm looking at the caricature now, and I don't really see it as being racist. It's just a caricature of Obama, poking fun at his features, which happen to be those of an African-American.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
