Friendly reminder that the articles of impeachment are on the House floor right now.
EDIT: they’ve been drafted, but Kevin McCarthy (House GOP Leader) refused to give unanimous consent, meaning it won’t be up for a vote until Monday. A simple majority is needed to impeach Trump, which shouldn’t be a problem.
Mitch McConnell, who still functions as Senate Leader until the 20th, sent a memo to U.S. Senators saying that unless there is 100% agreement to remove Trump (there on’t be), the formal trial will not start until January 19th- ONE DAY BEFORE BIDEN BECOMES PRESIDENT. Meaning that Biden’s first month in office will be spent dealing with Trump’s impeachment trial, because impeachments are always given priority, even though Trump isn’t President. In other words, Mitch screwed the Democrats again. Whether or not he will support Trump’s posthumous impeachment is currently unknown. Either way could be good or bad for the GOP.
Trump will almost certainly not be kicked out of office early, unfortunately, but he quite likely will be impeached.
Twice, in a single term! Another record set by the Trump Presidency.
