The famous matriarch--Michelle Duggar-- is embroiled in controversy for speaking out against transgender people, and a local ordinance protecting their rights, in a robocall sent out to households in her town.

Duggar, 47, who resides in Fayetteville, Ark., recorded a message urging voting families to protest the anti-discrimination measure, saying it would allow "males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls."

Fayetteville's anti-discrimination ordinance would appoint a city council staff member to "field complaints from residents who feel they've been discriminated against during housing transactions, employment decisions and other public accommodations in Fayetteville," according to the Fayetteville Flyer newspaper.

Duggar's message, posted online by the Flyer, brings up what she considers the end result of the ordinance being approved — things like men "using women's restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas" and other "areas designated for females only," she says in the recording.

"I doubt that Fayetteville parents would stand for a law that would endanger their daughters or allow them to be traumatized by a man joining them in their private space."

In Arkansas, a person can be fired for being gay or evicted for no other reason than being a transgender tenant, according to the Flyer.

Duggar's robocall ends with the mother of 19 posing a question to fellow parents.

"We should never place the preference of an adult over the safety and innocence of a child," she says. "Parents, who do you want undressing next to your daughter at the public swimming pool's private changing area?"

The message is said to be paid for by the website freefayetteville.org, which redirects to the Arkansas Family Council website. Despite the call for protest, a city council apparently approved the measure in a 6-2 vote Tuesday.
