Spottswoode, the Deplorable: That wasn't the whole of it. God himself went down to see, as the 'outcry was great' and the men went after strange flesh. Their true sin was spelled out by the men of Sodom surrounding Lot's house and demanding he send the two angels out, so they might sodomize them. But we know to sodomize someone is not to be lacking in hospitality. But deviants seek to pervert and lie about Scripture.

According to the Mishnah (which is pre-Christian Jewish Bible commentary), Sodom was unfathomably cruel to strangers and the poor. For example, a visitor to Sodom would be offered a bed for the night... but if the bed were too long or short for the visitor, it was the visitor they altered: A person who was too short would be stretched on a rack until he fit the bed. Someone who was too tall would have his feet and enough of his legs amputated, until he fit the bed.1
In regard to the poor, the people of Sodom were happy to offer a coin or two to a beggar. But the coins they offered had a mark on them... and no merchant in town would accept those coins in payment for anything. When the poor beggar finally starved to death, the coins would be reclaimed, and would be given to other poor people.2
Once the people of Sodom had found out that P'lotit, Lot’s daughter, had secretly given food to a stranger who was near starvation, and they burned her in public. Another time, when they discovered that a teenage girl had fed a starving beggar, they smeared honey all over her and placed her upon the city wall, so that she died from the stings of the bees and/or wasps attracted by the honey.3 Some traditions hold that it was the "cry" of the young girl hung from the walls which reached God. This was the "cry" of which He spoke to Abraham, and which ultimately led to the destruction of Sodom and the other cities. Behavior like this would most certainly qualify as grievous. "Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous..." (Gen. 18:20)"

At least Jesus added some sanity to the Hebrew path but then a bunch of Roman bigshots took Judaism 2.0 and added some stupidity of their own.

That said; Anti-Semitism is for morons and Jews have a right to be Jewish and their Talmud was written to explain away much of the "stupid" parts of the H.T. and provide a lot of background context and add extra circumstances and factors to when and how a certain harsh/stupid punishment could be carried out. Even the Jews realize how outdated and barbaric some of their Tanakh Law could be and have adapted and modified things over the centuries (while keeping the spirit of the Law).

When Jesus said that he came not to abolish the Law but to fulfill it, he meant The Noetic & Decalogue Laws. The Hebrew Mosaic code is strictly something for the ancient Hebrews whereas the Decalogue is more universal (....and mostly more sensible, just ten laws which mostly consist of 'Worship the Divine/Higher Ideals instead of stupid stuff and don't be a jerk'). The Decalogue could even be borrowed and reinterpreted by Secularists and Non-Abrahamics (Replace 'God' with 'Love/Higher Ideals' and 'Idols' with 'Greed/Wealth/Lower Ideals').

Elohim, Allah, Wankan Tanka, The Dao, The Monad, The Higher Ideal etc. is all ParaBrahman/Adi Parashakti. "Deity/Devil" can be simply a metaphor rather than literal. Deity/Devil is within us, not some external Beings.

Frums and Literalists just want power and control and they refuse to believe the truth that Change is a thing and normal and that a branch that bends does not break. Anyone of any faith that speaks out against "innovation" is a dumbass.

If a Muslim is part of a branch that rails against Bid'ah or "innovation" then they're an idiot. Change, evolution and innovation keep a faith alive, as does combining Faith with Reason.

I also feel certain rules were created for a reason and can become obsolete over time....
* Laws limiting sexuality are not longer valid in a society where most STIs are treatable/curable, Condoms work better, more effective contraception/sterilization/safe medical abortions, DNA tests, Adoption Industry, exists.
* Circumcision is no longer valid in a world where better hygiene and running water are a thing.
* Non-Kosher/Halal meats are no longer sinful since we've developed better hygiene in meat-packing (Pork is not as dirty and worm-ridden, shellfish can be frozen, etc.). Granted; Kosher/Halal meats raised/slaughtered the Kosher/Halal way are still better quality (....they tend to be more ethically raised and fed....kosher killing, done right, is actually humane and the critter passes out very quickly, hygiene is paramount and ground/processed meats only use the best cuts of real meat with no fillers or contaminants. I for one now SWEAR by 'Hebrew National' hot dogs) but the point is, non-kosher won't kill you.

We need to call Frums out for their real motives and refer to them for what they are: The Deplorably Self-Inadequate.

Wowzers! SoGo (I'm not typing out 'Sodom & Gomorrah' every single time) was basically today's Far-Right....
* Murdering visitors.
* Tormenting and starving the Poor.
* Punishing those who legitimately helped the Poor.
* Misogyny (Lot's 3rd daughter and all those honey-smeared girls hanging on the ways).
....All the more reason the call the GOP and today's Robber Barons "Sodomites". "SoGos" would be a good name, too.
