I did not even know what being a humanist meant. I was only sixteen, and the brain doesn't even start developing until about twenty.

Kent Hovind is still waiting for his brain to develop, apparently.
This jackass claims he used to be a scientist? Bullshit!
I...what?
I have an ebil liberal arts degree and even I learned in Anthropology that the personality is mostly formed by 20! By the time you get out of childhood, in fact, most of the brain is already formed and cannot be "unformed"; that is why children who never learn to speak as a child never can as adults, why you should learn foreign languages and musical instruments at a young age, etc.
Of course, Anthropology is probably evil! to religious fundamentalists, but still...it's true!

Sometimes never, as you so aptly display.
Y'know, I was about 6 when a Baptist preacher gave me a very important lesson (by example):
some people achieve an insane level of stupidity around when they reach adulthood.
How does someone so stunningly ignorant get a PhD?
(reads No Answers In Genesis)
Oh, that's how. Fucking fraud.
Whaddya gonna do... it's Hovind...
With Kent, I think this is one of those occasions where the stopped clock is right twice a day.
Shame he's such a late bloomer, 30 years late and all...
If your theory is true, how has humankind progressed, regarding the fact that, by the time they developed cognitive capacities, they had spend almost 1/3 of their reproductive lives?
"I was only sixteen, and the brain doesn't even start developing until about twenty."
In your case, Kent, it hasn't happened yet.
That Hovind spouts such insane things doesn't really bother me. What bothers me is the fact that there are people who actually will believe anything he says -- even this.
These people raise their children to believe the same crazy stuff, and some of 'em even vote. That's the scary part.

I don't think Kent Hovind's brain has ever developed.
Also, my brain was developed enough at 13 to see that religion is bunk.
I think he got confused by the theory that the human brain isn't completely developed until about age 20 (individual results may vary) so age 20 is the end point, not the beginning. Of course, Kent gets easily confused by anything pertaining to science ... or math, or history, or reality.
Statements equivalent to Kent's:
Blood mainly consists of chlorine. Scientists never look for chlorine in blood, that's why they will not admit it is there.
Jesus's middle name was Horace.
The moon is 32 miles in diameter and is only 3,000 miles from Earth. It is held in orbit by a strong wire that is attached to a gopher wood post attached to the Earth right in the middle of Antarica. NASA know all about this but just tell lies.
So close but so very far, Mr. Hovind. The brain is more than halfway through its final phase of development at age 20. At that point, we fully develop a sense of morality, as well as a sense of forethought (i.e. anticipating the consequences of our actions). I am a 21 year-old college student and I knew this. Perhaps your brain DID in fact start developing at age 20, since you did not have the forethought to file your taxes, and had no moral qualms about refusing to do so. As for the rest of humanity, our brains start developing at about 7 or 8 months after conception (developing in the sense that it is garnering consciousness, not just "growing"). Perhaps you're more "idiot" than "fundy".
Its just too.... easy.
Fuck it, where's the challenge?
Sometimes I wonder if these people are for real or are they yanking our chains?
The myth is "the brain doesn't stop developing until 25."
Which isn't even true, because your brain is ALWAYS growing and developing. Read Mike Males's book about how teenagers can be just as good in judgment and decisions as adults, also.
Well, Kent, yours will never develop. Harsh, but true. Might as well end your miserable brainless existence.
Look, I'm not saying Kent Hovind isn't a lunatic. I know who the guy is. But this could easily be a joke. Anyone who's had kids, or has looked at his or her own youth from a remove of a decade or two, has had similar thoughts, and many of us have expressed them similarly. Let's not become as strident and literal as the enemy.
.................
Too easy. Next!
I did not even know what being a humanist meant. I was only sixteen, and the brain doesn't even start developing until about twenty.
In your case I don't think it ever will.
In your case, not even past fifty. But, for the sake of humanity, let´s keep on the official version of six months in the uterus.
"Howdy! I'm that fundy Dino Guy, Kent Hovind! The brain doesn't develop til you're 20...but I'm past that age & I'm STILL waiting for mine to start! D'OH!"
So, Mr. Hovind...I would surmise that people 19 and under literally have empty cranial cavities (though considering some teens out there, I wouldn't be surpried).
Now THIS is what I call a "Strawman" argument!
"I would wile away the hours...conferin' with the flowers...consultin' with the rain...."
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
