Actually, the reverse is true.
Transgendered people go all the way through our history. Most places, it’s been no big deal. Mostly because it was behind the scenes, and not terribly public. A few people here and there. My favorite composer, Walter Carlos was Wendy Carlos for a long time before she went public.
Then people who felt that they shouldn’t have to put up with Gays, but lost that fight, and lost the gay marriage fight, felt like the transgender fight was their ride-or-die thingy.

The Satanic Temple have indeed since ‘claimed’ Baphomet, but their version (judging by the statue) appears to be male, not androgynous.
