Fox News contributor and megachurch paster Dr. Robert Jeffress says the NFL players who are protesting racial injustice and police killings of Black people should be "thanking God" they don't get "shot in the head" for doing so.

“I think what these players are doing is absolutely wrong,” Jeffress said, as ThinkProgress reports. “These players ought to be thanking God that they live in a country where they’re not only free to earn millions of dollars every year, but they’re also free from the worry of being shot in the head for taking a knee like they would be if they were in North Korea.”

Jeffress, who is a far right wing extremist who serves on President Trump's evangelical advisory board and frequently defends the president, clearly does not grasp the issue.

The players, the majority of whom are Black, are protesting racial oppression and police killings of Black people. That they are "free to earn millions of dollars every year" has nothing to do with it.

"President Trump is not a racist," Jeffress insists, all indications to the contrary. "For President Trump this is not about race, it's about respect of country."

But if President Trump respected the country, he would respect the Constitution, and would support players' silent protests, not call for their firing.

ThinkProgress notes Jeffress never called President Barack Obama a "bum," as LeBron James did to Presidnet Trump, but Jeffress "once wrote that Obama’s support for same-sex marriage was 'paving the way for the future reign of the Antichrist.'"
