“Our faith calls us outwards into the limitless darkness of the unknown. It tells us to go forth and preach the gospel to the world as a witness unto all nations unto the ends of the earth. From that command came America.
“Our nation, more than any other in history, was shaped by this Christian idea. This is who we are, and from the beginning, we have carried the belief that our country represents something new in the world.
“But the soul of our nation has always been rooted in an ancient faith.” – Marco Rubio, narrating a video posted to all State Department social media channels.

I remember why “The Handmaid’s Tale” was such a bestseller. Certainly why the adaptation became the first streamed series to win an Emmy.
You should be reminded of what happens in the sequel “The Testaments”, Pubio.
Interesting you mention the word ‘rooted’, OP. What that means in Australia.
You, Don Old Fart and the Repubicans are about to be politically fucked in less than six days from now.
In seven days we will be able to say to you this: Where is your ‘God’ now…?!
If your deity really existed, wouldn't it make you pay for your pretension, for not being humble and for being a hypocrite? Why would a particular old human tradition, really be about you, or better than any other? If it was backed by divine power, why would it let itself be prostituted for your own aims? It sounds like psychosis. Or the manipulation of the psychotic. The evil Inquisition claimed to be holy. Because there was no divine justice, humans had to stop its madness, human justice. The oldest law codes were still about human justice, even if it often was misrepresented as something else, or was outright savagery that better law codes addressed later. The Code of Hammurabi was older than your "holy" scriptures. Ancient Greek philosophers had already defeated your delusions. You're back with the old madnesss not because it was true, just because it's convenient for your abuse.
Our nation, more than any other in history, was shaped by this Christian idea.
Even when talking about bad things, the US has to be self-aggrandising.
Pretty sure Spain, France or the UK have a better claim at spreading christianity, what with them actually subjugating continents and bringing that religion with them.
Thatvexplains Salem 1692, slavery, Trail of Tears, killing NativevAmericans or forcing your lives on them
Our nation, more than any other in history, was shaped by this Christian idea.
Assuming that that is true (it’s not), then why are you as a nation instead outright worshipping a certain Orange Antichrist who shits all over Jesus’s teachings? Pretty sure billionares, adulterers, golden calfs, and lying conmen do not represent what Jesus of the Bible was embodiying for his actual followers…
Well, a lot of the early colonization attempts were basically cults which wanted to be isolated enough that there was no outside influence and no ability to leave. (Of course they didn’t account for the occasional people leaving to join the natives, because those weren’t real people with real cultures.) I guess if you want to count that as the real founding of the United States and not the Revolution, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution, then this sort of makes sense. But given that, roughly 150 years later, most of the isolated cults were stamped out or gone mainstream and were definitely no longer isolated, the place had been ruled by England and subject to English Common Law, and then that was overthrown in favor of a society more secular than the Western World had ever seen, I rather think it was already no longer relevant at that point.
Article 11 of the 1797 Treaty of Tripoli:
As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion ,-as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen,-and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
Hmm, kinda seems all the more relevant today, with all the Republicans freaking about about “Musselmen” existing and running for office and such.
I do have to admit, the old term “Musselmen” kinda amuses me. Muscular Muslims who really like to eat mussels?
Confused?
