If it's an oil fire then neither is any good and the water can spread the flames almost as badly as gasoline. It also does badly with electrical fires. What you need in that case is a non-liquid like baking soda or sand. Those will also put out traditional fires too. So if Christianity is water then it is only useful sometimes. But use it too much or in the wrong place and it's dangerous. Hey, you actually made a good metaphor! Oh, and in this example, the sand is secularism. It works in all cases and puts out all fires.

hmm, the Flying Spaghetti Monster , the Invisible Pink Unicorn and Cthulhu all say they are superior. Cthulhu agrees on the love and understanding bit, FSM and IPU not so much.
This hits on the one and only thing I like about fundamentalists. They don't lie about the fact that their religion *does* say theirs is the only one. They own up to this and accept it. As opposed to the more moderately religious who try to pretend that message isn't there and isn't responsible for the long history of religious violence in our world. Instead the moderately religious insist the message in their religion was always nice and happy and every bit of violence done in its name was a corrupt misinterpretation of it so stop blaming the religion for it.
If you're a religious person who has enough basic human compassion that you have a big problem with the violent bigoted material in your religion's scriptures, then the honest thing to do is drop your religion, not lie about it to make it sound nicer than it is.
