A family in Saudi Arabia is taking a "genie" to court, accusing it of theft and harassment, reports say.
They accuse the spirit of threatening them, throwing stones and stealing mobile phones, Al Watan newspaper said.
The family have lived in the same house near the city of Medina for 15 years but say they only recently became aware of the spirit. They have now moved out.
A local court is investigating. In Islamic theology, genies are spirits that can harass or possess humans.

Genie, demon, spirit, it's all the same dumba** nonsense of people with just enough imagination to get themselves into trouble, but not enough to get themselves out.
"A family in Saudi Arabia is taking a "genie" to court, accusing it of theft and harassment, reports say."
And here I thought it was stupid when I read that swarms of flies, apes and other creatures had been "sued" in a court of law.
At least they exist!
As a side note, I'd personally like to have heard the testimony of the ape...

This is too fucking stupid for words.

Sounds like you cooked this up so that you could get out of your lease.

Uh huh. Sure.
@ Elia
In the Middle Ages it was not uncommon for courts to try animals before executing them.
Animals that harmed humans were considered servants of the devil because they had violated God's directive in the Bible that humans should have dominion over animals.Exodus 21:28, was often cited as the grounds for executing an animal convicted of murder: "If an ox gore a man or a woman that they die, then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten."

An ape's testimony would probably consist of flinging its poo at the defendant!
Did you guys try calling the cell phone? It's probably just under the couch. I mean, calling it and accusing a nonexistent being of stealing it are both good ways of retrieving cell phones, but in my experience, calling it works at least 40% more often.
But they're are not bound by law! Like a 'Genie' will appear to testify? Kinda like calling God or Jesus to the stand. Where do you supeona them?
Stupid beyond words. Frivolous lawsuit, accusers pay all legal fees, case closed
Just say "I don't understand how you can fit in such a tiny little lamp."
...Nah, that was probably old in the tenth century.
They obviously haven't considered that this might be an efrit or marid--the two most powerful, and most wicked, classes of jinn. YOU want to try prosecuting one of them, WITHOUT the jinn-binding knowledge of Suleiman behind you? Have fun...
(No, I don't think keeping some red and white mana open is going to help.)
"They accuse the spirit of threatening them, throwing stones and stealing mobile phones, Al Watan newspaper said."
Tsk! Well, of course there's no genie doing all that in their home. Obviously it's a poltergeist! Sheesh!
Reminds me of a Family guy episode where Peter is in court and calls to the stand an invisble witness who always tells the truth but only Peter can talk to and hear.
I guess that's what they'll do when the genie takes the stand.
"Is this planet going crazy? Or are only rare individuals crazy?"
Comparatively, society is much less crazy now. Its just now we have media that tells us about every single crazy person in the world. Before we were living in ignorant bliss, unaware that part of the world was still in the Dark Ages.
even if you can get everyone to go along with this. you convict the spirit and everything.
now what?
what sentence or fine can you impose on a spirit?
where the fuck do you think this is headed?
why in gods name did you ever think this was going to accomplish something?
Wait, aren't jinni basically like demons in christian theology, eg. they live in hell and serve Satan/Iblis?
Those must be some pretty hardcore lawyers in the prosecution.
Does the defense now get to call themselves Devil's advocates?
Confused?
