Atheism existed since ancient times....it comes from ignorance unlike other religions like Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, etc...

yes, atheism has existed since ancient times, then people started making up stories to explain what they lacked the knowledge to understand properly. Now we understand things properly and have no need for stories anynmore.
@Osiris:
Actually, Buddhism really is agnosticism, not atheism. As I recall from World Religions last semester, the Buddha admitted that he really didn't know whether higher powers, heaven, etc. existed when asked and went on to say that it was irrelevant to the discussion. Which would seem to sum up what most agnostics would say when asked the same thing.
Natural atheism has existed since the beginning of human life (or, all life, really) as everyone is born an atheist, however, reasoned atheism, the kind of atheism which actively rejects religions has only existed since the advent of religion.
Religious belief often requires a choice to be ignorant.
Re: Buddhism and Atheism. A Buddhist Monk I know was on a flight wearing his full outfit (robes and all) when the guy net to him suddenly blurts out, "I don't believe in God". He smiled and said, "Good. I don't either." I think most Buddhists who are far along in their studies would say that belief in God, even if he does exist, is a hinderance to enlightenment. But to get sort of Zen belief in Buddhism is a hinderance to enlghtenment once you reach a certain point. You must release everything to get to the end. I don't know if you consider that to be more atheist or agnostic.
Atheism has existed since the first nut-job started declaring that he was the only mouthpiece to a god that nobody else was able to see. It comes from intelligence and reality. It comes from study and reason.
No one becomes a scientist or an atheist in an instant, when they suddenly "See the light", but christians do.
This is a good example of what happens when you try to devise sensible arguments against theism. The theists simply recycle your very own arguments. Of course, a replacement atheism <-> religion doesn't garantee the truth value of the statement will be conserved (rather on the contrary), but it doesn't get through these numbskulls anyway. Darn theistic copycats.
I ignored religions, and I'm really glad I did. Without a religion, I no longer risk being a suicide bomber, a "Holy" Crusader or whatever. You KNOW how Al Qaeda uses religion!
Ironic, because religion started out to explain things people didn't know, like lightning, fire, and death.
Confused?
