Baptist Minister Ron Baity on a federal judge striking down gay marriage ban in North Carolina
“If you think for one skinny minute, God is going to stand idly by and allow this to go forward without repercussions, you better back up and rethink this situation,” Baity said in remarks transcribed by Raw Story. “I want you to understand, that is raw, pure blasphemy.”
Baity also drew comparisons between gay marriage and Sodom and Gomorrah, the cities destroyed by God in biblical stories.
"My friend, we are meriting, we are bringing the judgement of God on this nation as sure as Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed, don’t be surprised at the plagues. Don’t be surprised at the judgement of God," Baity said. “You think Ebola is bad now, just wait. If it’s not that, it’s going to be something else. My friends, I want you to understand, you can’t thumb your nose at God, and God turn his head away without God getting your attention.”

When it comes right down to it: Don't be surprised when tragic shit occurs, it's only been happening forever.
I think only Christians are surprised by natural disasters or disease outbreaks because they are harboring this ridiculous notion of a benevolent God playing nice. We in the secular world just know shit happens and there's not a single magic word to stop it.

Why wouldn't God stand idly by and allow this to go forward in the US? He's done it in all other countries that have implemented gender-neutral marriage laws.
Sodom and Gomorrah were inhospitable, arrogant and mean to the poor. Those were their crimes, according to the Bible.
Neither Sierra Leone, Guinea nor Liberia has any LGBT rights to speak about, and God still chose those countries for the start of the Ebola break-out, which, according to you, is God's punishment for gay marriage?

Can someone remind me of the death toll of the Ebola outbreak in the US? I can't find any hard figures, given a quick search, but it doesn't seem to be spreading as quickly as other nations.
Not only is God's aim terrible, it's also really easy to ignore, as long as you follow some simple guidelines.

He stood idly by at the Holocaust, He stood idly by while the Plague killed a third of the human population of Europe, He stood idly by while a tsunami wiped out most of Christian Lisbon, and He stands idly by and watches as children are raped and murdered and millions of people die in agony from cancer while they and their families beg Him on their knees for relief; so, yeah, I've concluded that your God the Useless is going to stand idly by for some trivial thing like gay marriage, too.

The sin of sodom was it was inhospitable to strangers and it failed to strengthen the hand of the poor.
If god doesn't destroy the Republic party he will have to apologise to Sodom and Gomorrah.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our American friends for taking up all of God’s attention. Because he seems so focused on the USA he totally hasn’t noticed how many other countries in the world already have civil unions, SSM, gay couples adopting, comprehensive sex-ed for teenagers, universal healthcare and all these other socialist/communist/culturally-marxist/atheist things, some of these for decades or even centuries.
