Iran is a mainly Shia Muslim country.
The only other country that is Shia-based is Azerbaijan:
They have a saying there, as they are Quran literalists, natch: 'God forbids us Wine. So instead, we drink Vodka!' You'll see these Shia Muslims drinking beer in that country; they also do a good Plum brandy.
Via an edict from a past 18th Century ruler: 'Protect these people, and you will reap the rewards in the future'. Thus Azerbaijan has a Jewish community in that country; then, as today. It's the reason why, post-USSR collapse, that country got developmental aid from Israel. Also aid from USA.
Iran: Shia. Wants to 'Erase Israel from the map'. Azerbaijan: Shia. Enjoys full diplomatic relations with Israel. Is pro-US too.
Iran: The Hijab is compulsory for women; worn by female Iranians in our 2012 London Olympics. Like I say, Azerbaijan - like Iran - is Shia. Funny then, that when that country's athletes entered the Olympic Stadium in the opening ceremony of such, there was a distinct lack of any headwear by women competitors from that country, eh?!
'Communism', eh? Look at any Cuban. You're as likely to find any person there with bad teeth, as say... hen's teeth. Cuba spends as much on it's socialised healthcare as it does on defence. The Cuban Revolution: 1953. The National Health Service - socialised healthcare in the UK - 1948.
Cuba's still here. Azerbaijan's still here. Socialised medicine in the UK: 1948. The London Olympics then. Now...:
