[In response to someone stating that there are no atheist organizations pushing their agendas on anyone]
Really?
What about our war mongers and torture supporters?
They can't honestly be christians, christians love peace and wouldn't hurt a fly.

So the former U.S president, George W Bush, was not a Christian, when he described Operation Enduring Freedom a "Crusade"...?
"Really?

Bush and Cheney are atheists?
"They can't honestly be christians, christians love peace and wouldn't hurt a fly."
Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, Salem Witch Trials, so on and so forth.
Oh, I forgot. They're not True Christians
I "hate" to break it to you, Lauren, but those "war mongers" and "torture supporters" are composed almost entirely of Christian right-wingers. Maybe do a little background checking before you spout off ignorance, hm?

I hate to break it to you. Well, that's not true, I'm glad to point this out to you. Every single one of the war mongers and torturers claims to be a Christian.
Not a Poe, I don't think. It might be sarcasm, but it is also possible that she was raised in a church that actually taught that whole peace & love thing that Jesus was such a big supporter of. It definitely skates on the edge of the No True Scotsman fallacy, but on the other hand, the behaviour of the warmongers, torturers, crusaders, etc, really doesn't seem to have a lot to do with the message that the guy they claim to follow preached.
So I get where she may be coming from. On the other hand, it's Sister Lauren...she is a little off the wall. (Alternet articles can be interesting...Alternet comments are oh, so much better!)

Bush administration. Christians. Lot of dead people and flies in Iraq
Can't they connect the dots?
Whereas it's true that christians SHOULD be peaceful and non-threatening in accordance to the philosophies of Jesus, the truth is that most of the time they're everything but. This, of course, also goes for all the war mongering politicians and those who torture. One could bring up the Inquisition and countless other examples, but that has been done to death here.
What about our war mongers and torture supporters?
While I'm sure there are some atheists who both support and endorse aggressive war and torture, they do not form a significant majority or even a significant minority of the most vocal of war and torture supporters, And there are recent studies that back up that claim, studies showing that the more religious a person describes themself the more likely they are to endorse or excuse torture by the US.
They can't honestly be christians
While you can claim they are not "true christians", they claim they are and likely wouldn't consider you a "true christian" for opposing that view. Most importantly it's not your right to decide whether or not someone is a christian or not.
They certainly don't claim to be atheists and I highly doubt that there is a massive atheist conspiracy to discredit christians, if there all of the war and torture supporters were atheists trying to discredit christianity then th US would be a nation with an atheist majority.
christians love peace and wouldn't hurt a fly
So all of those "christians" throughout history calling for and conducting crusades and hol wars were not really christians? I doubt that. In fact there is not a day that goes by when I don't have to hear one fundy christian or another wax poetic about how the entire muslim world must be destroyed in a holy war, or how it's a good and christian thing to torture muslims and other non christians.
"christians love peace and wouldn't hurt a fly"
That depends on which ones you're talking to. Besides that, there are also atheists (and people of religions other than Christianity. . . they do exist you know) who feel the way you describe.
"No True Scotsman" argument FTL.
Also, What the fuck are you on lady? I thought they outlawed methaquaalone.
Yeah, because everyone knows it was the atheists who hung "witchs" and went on crusades.
P.S. I don't think she's a poe. She seems pretty crazy.
weather you want to keep your fingers in your ears for this next part or not, listen up.
the Christian faith alone has easily been responsible for more violence and hatred and death then Hitler, Stalin, and Bin Laden combined.
you can ignore this like every other ass wipe who conveniently forgets how many times the bibles answer to a problem is stoning to death, or you can face the simple and painfully obvious fact that you've been worshiping a psychopath your whole life.
Yeah, her other replies there show either extreme poeishness* or extreme bat shit insanery*...
Either way not strictly fundie...
*yes, I know those aren't really words.
that explains why i'm against the use of torture and my (slightly) christian bf is for it.
oh, wait, no, that would be the opposite of what you said. fail.
What about our war mongers and torture supporters?
You mean like Bush and Cheney?
They can't honestly be christians, christians love peace and wouldn't hurt a fly.

*glares*
LOL. I picked up my Bible and opened to a random page.
Deuteronomy 21. You know, the stoning of rebellious children bit.
You can turn to pretty much any page and find something to be disgusted about.
Well, this must be news to you, but have you ever slapped a fly? Probably. You're Christian, right? You just messed up your own statement.
Confused?
