The latest such grotesque lesson is from a leading cleric Abd Al-Aziz Al-Khazraj Al-Ansari in Qatar. Using a young boy as a stand-in for his wife, Al-Ansari, explains how to beat a wife “out of love” and how some women secretly want beatings because their want “violent and powerful husbands.”

Al-Ansari instructs that Islam bars striking or slapping a women’s face: The Prophet Muhammad “Look how merciful Islam is. The Prophet forbade striking the face. He forbade men from beating their wives on the face. Slapping the face, hitting the head, punching the nose — all of this is prohibited. The beating is for discipline.”

He further states that “we must understand that the man is the leader of the house. A leader has authorities, just like a company manager.” He instructs how to first admonish wives for failing to do what they told and then resort to “painless beating that does not leave bruises or cause bleeding.”

The taboo of a human, engaging in sex with a non-human, will soon go the way of the seemingly intransigent taboo of two individuals, of the same gender, engaging in sexual relations. Sure, we may scoff at my so-called absurd notion and prediction now, but, remember, my parents and their peers, decades ago, would’ve dismissed as ludicrous the manner in which homosexuality–a longstanding and seemingly irreversible taboo, dating back thousands of years–has today been embraced and sanctioned as an alternate, but normal and healthy, lifestyle. Of course, the naysayers will grumble about how homosexuals are consenting adults, and I will be chastised for comparing the actions of two consenting adults with a human and a non-human, which, supposedly, has no ability to consent. Never mind that the definition of consent is malleable. Fluid. Capable of being altered in an instant. It will soon be argued, if it hasn’t, already, that the mare, in this story, had every opportunity, every chance, given its size and strength, to resist this old perv. Its acquiescence will be deemed consent. It will be alleged that the mare has rights and privileges and that said rights and privileges extend to such behavior, to which it was, apparently, amenable. Laugh now. This type of behavior will soon be granted legal protection, and history will look back on Ridgeway, not as some old, demented perv, who couldn’t keep his hands off of innocent and helpless creatures, but as the Rosa Parks of bestiality. Our society is descending down a slippery slope, with no end in sight.

We have another alleged “honor killing” in Europe. Rokstan M. is a woman who was gang raped by three Syrian soldiers and fled for freedom in the West. Her family however treated her as unclean and guilty for being gang raped. She reportedly feared being killed by her father and brothers. The young pregnant woman was found stabbed to death and her Syrian father is believed to have fled back to Syria. Police are also seeking her brothers who are believed to have participated in the savage murder. Rokstan wrote on social media shortly before her death that “I am awaiting death. But I am too young to die.”

Rokstan was employed as an interpreter on a book project on Syrian refugees. She recounted before her death that “I was taken by three men. Ever since that time my family has regarded me as unclean. My mother and my brothers mistreat me. They say that I deserve to die.” She lived at Papatya, a crisis center for girls and young women and the director, Eva Kaiser, believes Rokstan was killed by her family “because she was no longer a virgin and was raped in Syria.”

Her body was found behind a living area for Syrian refugees in Berlin. The father appears to have fled to Turkey and likely back to Syria — leaving his wife who is under investigation in Germany. The mother denies involvement but friends of the Rokstan say that the mother threatened her and once allegedly tried to hire a hitman to kill her.

Chancellor Mohammad Ashraf Ghairat tweeted this week that women would be barred from campus until a “safe Islamic environment” can be created for their education. Notably, as this picture shows, men and women once studied together in the 1940s and 1950s. However, the Taliban banned women from going to school in their prior government in the 1990s

On Monday, Ghairat tweeted: “Folks! I give you my words as the chancellor of Kabul University: as long as real Islamic environment is not provided for all, women will not be allowed to come to universities or work. Islam first.”

Ghairat later lashed out at the New York Times for reporting this as a ban on Tuesday: “I haven’t said that we will never allow women to attend universities or go to work, I meant that until we create an Islamic environment, women will have to stay at home. We work hard to creat safe Islamic environment soon,.”

Ali Hammuda, an Imam at a Cardiff mosque, seems intent on maintaining a position as one of the most hateful and extreme voices in the West when it comes to Islamic values. Hammuda first attracted international attention when three young men from his mosque who became extremists in ISIS in Syria. He is now back in the news after a secret recording shows him telling his followers that it is permissible and moral under the teachings of Mohammed to have sex slaves.

Hammuda influenced the three ‘Cardiff jihadis’ – Nasser Muthana and Reyaad Khan, then 20, and Muthana’s younger brother Aseel, then 17 – who became terrorists with ISIS in Syria. He is shown in the latest recording telling teenage Muslims that they can morally force women to be sex slaves under the teachings of the Koran (Quran). The recording from the Al-Manar mosque by an undercover reporter shows Hammuda, who (despite his extremist past) the English Islamic Programmes officer at the mosque, explains the Hadiths, or sayings of Mohammed.

Hammuda is recorded as saying:

“One of the interpretations as to what this means is that towards the end of time there will be many wars like what we are seeing today, and because of these wars women will be taken as captives, as slaves, yeah, women will be taken as slaves. . . . And then, er, her master has relations with her because this is permissible in Islam, it’s permissible to have relations with a woman who is your slave or your wife.”

While rape and slavery is perfectly moral under the teachings of Mohammad, Hammuda is disgusted . . . by music. Music turns out to be the “tool of Satan” so when you are raping your Yazidi sex slave, you should not listen to music. He also says that it is forbidden to engage in the “free mixing” with women . . . unless of course you are raping them as an Islamic right.

What is really frightening is that, until 2013, Hammuda was allowed to hold lunchtime sessions at Cathays High School in Cardiff. Many Muslims have condemned Hammuda and his hateful, disgusting teachings. After the release of the tape, Hammuda insisted that he has always condemned the “so-called Islamic State” and “this evil phenomena.” He insisted that “The undercover recording and quotations referred to seem to have been deliberately taken out of context to portray a religious perspective that I do not ascribe to.”

Yishai Schlissel, an ultra-Orthodox Jewish man, stabbed six marchers in the annual Gay Pride Parade in Jerusalem. What is equally disturbing is that Schlissel was just released after serving 10 years for stabbing participants in the Gay Pride Parade in 2005. Schlissel immediately demanded a court held in accordance with Jewish law, a request which was denied.

Schlissel left two people in serious condition.

A decade ago, he wounded three marchers not far from the spot of his most recent attack. He was only released a month ago — a testament to his fanatical hatred of homosexuals and extreme religious beliefs. He explained to police that as a faithful Jew he had come “to kill in the name of God.” He was released from prison a month ago.

Notably, the Orthodox community did not appear to shun Schlissel. Instead, he was interviewed on an ultra-Orthodox radio service nearly two weeks ago, and he used the occasion to assure fellow Ultra-Orthodox believers that “The battle is not over. Those unclean people want to continue defiling Jerusalem.” He also insisted that people must go to confront the people in the parade and that the goal must be “to disperse them, even by force.” None of that appears to have led the government to put him under surveillance or cause other Ultra-Orthodox Jews to call the police. Those are questions that are now being asked by many.

The medieval mentality found in some parts of India was on display in the Gujarat High Court, which asked a rape victim to balance a 40kg rock on her head in order to ‘prove her purity’ and reside with her husband again. It is part of the bizarre ritual called “Agnipariksha,” or “test of fire.”

The woman became pregnant as a result of the rape but was denied an abortion by Gujarat High Court in India. If she passes this “sanctity test,” she would be able to live with her husband again.

The “test of fire” is the traditional way in some areas of India to prove virtue because of the view that a rape victim is considered to be “tainted.” The origins of the test is found in the Hindu poem Ramayana, in which Sita was made to sit in the fire after she had been kidnapped by a suitor.

“Father Valeriy” of Church of St Michael in the self-proclaimed state of Transnistria, in Eastern Europe is shown riding the man like a donkey as he protests. After the man collapses, the priest stands on top of him and raises his arms in victory. The Moldovan Orthodox Church has launched a probe. Assuming that this is not just some horrible joke, the video shows the potential for great abuse in such rituals.

When the cameraman asked how far the man must carry the large priest, Valeriy responds “To Jerusalem and to the sacred mountain of Aphone.” The man then pleaded that he cannot go on and asks to carry the priest in his arms instead: “Good people please save me! I cannot take it anymore!

News accounts say that Valeriy insists that they will continue to Jerusalem unless the devil shows itself. What is most disturbing is the appearance of a young child who is allowed to witness this scene as Father Valeriy grabs the man’s ear and then later stands on the collapsed man in victory.

While Professor Saida Grundy has not actually started teaching at Boston University, she is already facing calls for her removal from the faculty. After being hired by BU, Grundy let loose with a series of tweets that are denounced as racist and sexist. Grundy tweeted, for example, “White masculinity isn’t a problem for america’s colleges, white masculinity is THE problem for america’s colleges.” The tweets have triggered a debate over whether there is a double standard for such comments and whether such comments should be treated as protected speech.

In a January tweet, Grundy wrote: “Every MLK week I commit myself to not spending a dime in white-owned businesses. and every year i find it nearly impossible.” Previously, she posted comments like“Deal with your white sh*t, white people. slavery is a *YALL* thing.”

Brundy is expected to start teaching in June and Boston University spokesman Colin Riley insisted “Professor Grundy is exercising her right to free speech and we respect her right to do so.”

Knesset member Bezalel Smotrich of the Jewish Home party is calling for the segregation of Arab and Jewish mothers in maternity wards in Israeli hospitals. He insists that Israeli mothers should not have to have their babies next to Muslim babies “who might want to murder” them in 20 years. Media reported that Shaare Tsedek and Hadassah hospitals in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv’s Ichilov and the Meir hospital in Kfar Saba were all segregating patients.

Smotrich said “My wife is truly no racist, but after giving birth she wants to rest rather than have a hafla [a celebratory feast often accompanied by music and dancing] like the Arabs have after their births. It’s natural that my wife wouldn’t want to lie in bed next to a woman who just gave birth to a baby who might want to murder her baby 20 years from now.”

When confronted later by a radio interviewer, Smotrich doubled down and said “Arabs are my enemies and that’s why I don’t enjoy being next to them.”

Sunni leader Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musalyar (head of one of the traditionalist Sunni Muslims in Kerala, India) has reportedly confirmed that worst expectations of women and civil liberties advocates in India with recent comments calling the concept of gender equality “un-Islamic” and saying that women could never equal men as “they are fit only to deliver children.” It is a chilling reminder of the intense prejudices and oppression faced by women in many traditional Islamic areas.

Musalyar, 76, the chief of All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama, insisted at a camp of Muslim Students Federation (MSF) in Kozhikode that women lack the mental strength and power to control the universe, “which lies in the hands of men.” Ignoring the advances in civilized countries, he predicted that “Gender equality is something which is never going to be a reality. It is against Islam, humanity and was intellectually wrong.”

He further added “Women can never equal men. They are fit only to deliver children. Women cannot withstand crisis situations.” He further denounced plans to allow girls and boys to share seats in colleges as “part of a calculated move to destroy Islam and culture.”

The Women’s Protection Act, passed by Pakistan’s largest province of Punjab last week, would seem the type of law that no civilized person could contest. It offers legal protection to women from sexual abuse and violence while calling for the creation of a toll-free abuse reporting hot line and the establishment of women’s shelters. However, the Council of Islamic Ideology, a powerful Pakistani religious body that advises the government on the compatibility of laws with Islam, has now declared that criminalizing violence against women is “un-Islamic.”

Various Islamic clerics and religious leaders previously denounced the law as conflicting with the teachings of Islam and the Koran.

Fazlur Rehman, the chief of one of Pakistan’s largest religious parties, the Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam, explained that “this law makes a man insecure. This law is an attempt to make Pakistan a Western colony again.”

In another example of attempts to legitimize murder for apostasy, an Islamist Cleric of the Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG) declared in an interview with the BBC that Kurds who leave Islam to convert to Zoroastrianism are to be murdered; or in his words “Killed and Executed.”

The cleric extended his hand of mercy by allowing those converts three days to regret their decision but thereafter are to be executed.

In an almost brutal irony, Mulla Hassib from Sulaimani said that Islamic religious tenets permit such executions, but ISIS’ practice of killing apostates is partially correct but he criticizes the terrorist organization for spreading the religion by means of “violence”.

Zoroastrianism predates Christianity and Islam by centuries and is regarded as a precursor by some to these religions. Its decline began with the Islamic conquest of Persia from 633 to the mid 650s. While today the religious faithful are estimated in the low 100,000s worldwide, a resurgence of the faith is showing marked gains in Iraqi Kurdistan. Omar reportedly attacked a female 14-year-old relative for not wearing a hijab to Hickman High School. The University says that Omar has not worked at the university for months.

Omar is listed on the University’s website as a graduate teaching assistant of Arabic and the managing editor of the undergraduate journal “Artifacts.” He received his Bachelors Degree in translation and multiple Masters Degrees in Libya. The Mizzou website still lists him as Adjunct Instructor of Arabic in German & Russian Studies.

After repeated refusals of her family to allow her to marry the man she loved, Zeenat Rafiq, 18, eloped with Hassan Khan, a classmate. She was surprised therefore when her mother found her to say that all was forgiven and that she should return home for a belated celebration of the marriage. When she showed up, her mother and brother proceeded to beat and strangle her . . . and then burned her. Her mother, Perveen Bibi, has proudly claimed to have upheld the honor of the family by killing her own daughter. She told the police “I have no regrets.”

After killing and burning her daughter, Bibi ran outside and yelled, “I have killed my daughter for misbehaving and giving our family a bad name,.”

She was sentenced to death while Rafiq’s brother, Anees Rafiq, received life in prison.

Rafiq is just one of the roughly 1,000 women are slain every year by relatives. After she married in secret, the couple hid in fear for their lives until Rafiq’s mother and an uncle arrived with the offer of a ceremony. Notably, there is no record of the uncle being charged despite his involvement in luring the victim to her death.

He was known as Prophet Shamiso Kanyama in Zimbabwe and he instructed his followers to bury him alive as part of his ritual to cleanse their house of evil spirits. They did and were surprised when they dug him up to find out that he was dead. Now the family involved in the ritual is accused of murder despite the “Prophet” demanding that he be buried.

Kanyama reportedly asked his followers to bury him alive so that he could summon more cleansing powers to heal the family that had been plagued by mysterious deaths. He directed them to dig a grave and bury him alive because that was the way he summoned more healing powers to ward off evil spirits. Indeed, Kanyama helped to dig his own grave and jumped inside. One man begged the men to stop and dig up Kanyama but they ignored his pleas. Instead, the prophet yelled at the man that he was “disturbing his angels, and urged the other to continue filling the grave."

In Saudi Arabia, the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice is a religious police force that has been a constant presence in the Kingdom arresting woman having coffee with colleagues or forcing young girls to burn to death in fire rather than run out without their scarves. Then there was the time that the religious police in Dammam marched into a popular dinosaur exhibit and shut it down without any explanation of why the dinosaurs threatened the virtue of good Muslims. Then there was the flogging of a women who insulted them. Then there are the round ups of religious people for simply praying at home. Then there is the arrest of a man for standing in line with his wife at a grocery store. The list goes on and on. The latest entry is the arrest of young men for simply dancing at a birthday party. Birthday parties have been denounced by Saudi clerics as unIslamic, but this the first such arrest that many can recall that did not involve dancing with women.

The Vice police in Buraydah arrested the men for “loud music and inappropriate dancing.” The charge reflected the medieval views of the dominant Wahhabi sect of Islam. The police said that the young men were in “a comprising situation in their dance and shameful movements.” There was even a birthday cake. There is enough to send the Vice police into a fence. Recall that grand mufti Sheik Abdul-Aziz bin Baz declared that “It’s not permissible to take part in them. Birthday parties are an innovation . . . and people are in no need of innovations.”

The Vice police also noted that they saw the hair styles of the men as non-traditional and said that such styles are dangerous and “can lead to immorality and even homosexuality.”

Saudi Arabia has given the world another bizarre example of life under the strict Islamic code and values of the Kingdom. The Talaee Al-Noor International School in Riyadh painted an inviting and playful rainbow image on its building. The Kingdom’s religious police quickly swooped in an arrested the administrator, fined the school $25,000, and ordered the facade painted over. The reason? Rainbows are seen as “emblems Of homosexuality.” It is not clear what the religious police will do with naturally occurring rainbows.

The offensive, unIslamic rainbow is now gone and the morals of Saudi citizens saved by another brave act of the Saudi Arabian Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice.

Judge Jack Robison appears to be channeling a higher authority recently in Comal County, Texas. Robison interrupted jurors during deliberations to inform the panel that God told him to acquit Gloria Romero-Perez of trafficking a teenage girl for sex. It appears that divine judgment did not track well with the jury, which proceeded to find Perez guilty as charged.

Perez was accused of paying $6,000 (£4,300) to smuggle ta 15-year-old girl to the US from Honduras. She then received money from an older man who had sex with the girl and had a child by her.

Having run out of sedans and swimming pools for its view of creative and fun forms of execution, ISIS is now returning to an old favorite of beheadings. In the latest video, they executed women for sorcery in Syria and earlier beheaded a street magician as immoral under Islam and Sharia law. Two women were executed with their husbands.

Two women were the latest victims of ISIS and its extreme view of Islamic justice. The group has been targeted possible sorcerers or practitioners of “witchcraft”.

Street performers have been deemed sorcerers if they merely do magic tricks for children. Optical illusions are deemed black magic under the primitive Sharia judgments of ISIS. The dead man’s image shows a broken bag full of prayer beads laid near his body. Such trinkets and charms are also viewed as black magic and blasphemy.

Where the world is united in fighting the menace of the coronavirus, Gazan Imam Jamil Al-Mutawa used his sermon in Gaza to praise the virus as sent by Allah to kill Westerners and Jews while sparing Palestinians. If the translation is accurate on MEMRI from March 20, 2020, the Imam is enthralled by the virus declares “[Allah] has sent just one soldier, [the coronavirus].”

Al-Mutawa reportedly declared the virus as a victory of Islam against its enemies and suggested that it spared Gazans. However, after this sermon two such cases were reportedly found in Gaza:

[Allah] has sent just one soldier, [the coronavirus]. What would happen had he sent 50 like the coronavirus? He has sent just one soldier and it has hit all 50 [American] states. An hour ago, they said on TV that in California… They said that they expect 58% of California to be infected within two months. They talk about 25 million infected people in just one of the 50 states. Allah be praised. Look how anyone who schemes against the Al-Aqsa Mosque is being shattered to smithereens by the soldiers of Allah.”

Cases were confirmed in Gaza the next day.

I cannot confirm this translation, but, if true, this is not simply a disgusting sermon but a dangerous one. There are cases in Gaza and doctors are worried about a catastrophic outbreak given the living conditions and concentration of the population. Other Islamic leaders have been more responsible, including advising followers not to attend services like this one. The failure to heed such advice however is not limited to the Islamic religion, as we recently discussed.

All of this shows how disease is not simply a public health emergency but an opportunity for some. It is uncanny how such disasters are so easily claimed to fit religious and political agendas. Just as we have market profiteers, these are religious profiteers who claim windfalls from disasters.

We have previously discussed the practice on some airlines to ask women move to accommodate ultra-Orthodox Jewish men who refuse to sit next to women. Now, Melanie Wolfson, 38, a British-Israeli woman, is suing EasyJet after she was asked her to change seats on a flight from Tel Aviv to London.

Wolfson is asking for 66,438 shekels compensation in a lawsuit filed by the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC). She wants the airline to bar future demands or requests for women to move. She noted that she paid extra for an aisle seat on her flight last October, but an ultra-Orthodox man and his son were sitting in the row when she arrived. According to Haaretz, she claims that the request was insulting and humiliating.

What is interesting about the lawsuit is that Wolfson was not told to switch, was offered the incentive of a free hot drink, and ultimately agreed to move. However, two months later, she was again asked to move for the same reason. She then refused but two other female passengers agreed to move.
