Fundamentalism in a Nutshell.
Oh, to avoid a Godwin, I'd like to point out a few others who have cited blind obedience in their followers as virtuous: Charles Manson, Jim Jones, David Koresh, various hardline ayatollahs and mullahs and imams -- you get the picture.
Doubt causes you to question what you've been taught. If you consult anyone other than the pastor who taught you, then you will begin to think on your own and use other information and perspectives. If you do that, you will see the bible is nothing more than a book and that everything you've been taught is a lie.
Therefore, never doubt and never question. Keep your eyes and ears closed to all but your pastor!
A fundie will say that they believe that the bible is literally true. However their contention can always be reduced to "my interpretation of the bible is literally true. Your interpretation is wrong." Each and every fundie sect, and there are hundreds, is convinced that their interpretation is literally true. Since they all are mutually exclusive in some detail logically they are all wrong except for one at the most. Any person's statement of the bible being literally true boils down to the supremely arrogant statement that " I am 100% correct in my perfect interpretation of the bible." Even if the bible were the literal word of god the vast majority of self-proclaimed christians therefore have it wrong and are headed to hell by their own cosmological view. There can not be more than a tiny handful of people anywhere who have it all correct. The rest of us are headed for hell. ----- Doesn't the bible itself decry in no uncertain terms such pride?
Awesome, Melanie has just re-invented the time-honored Qur'annic concept of "Bi-la Kaifa"*, which mean "without asking how"
Basically, it says that when the Qur;an seems to be wrong or contradictory, it's actually still 100% correct, and you should stop thinking about that particular bit.
It's like the ultimate "Because I said so" argument.
Because the local pastors aren't evil at all.
