Perhaps he means that Jesus was killed by the death penalty, therefore the death penalty is the reason people are now Saved.
That's the only way this assinine statement makes any sense whatsoever.

I was raised baptist but dont currently attend any church, I do consider myself a christian though and saved through grace.
I am pro-death penalty when the crime is severe enough and proven beyond a reasonable doubt. I'm also anti-abortion and pro-socialized medicine... No one really cares probably but I take these stands not because I want to follow a crowd or walk a party line... I simply look at situations and go with my gut feeling as to what I think is right and just. There are arguments and counter-arguments for every situtation/viewpoint... its all a perspective thing...
Anyhow, I think its important to let people believe what they want.... everyone should be open to criticism though.
