Same-sex activity is not uncommon in the animal kingdom. It certainly proves they enjoy sex for the sake of it - and not purely for procreative purposes. Dolphins, for example. Dogs (& most canids, in fact). And Bonobo social cohesion is based on sex, both malexfemale & same sex.
When lionesses go out to hunt, they leave their cubs with one, or sometimes two lionesses. Know what a group of lionesses are called?
A Pride.
And do you know what a group of LGBT people are called?
A Pride (Parade).
Because they're PROUD to be who they are. They're out, and PROUD. And more power to 'em, says I! And we are animals too. It's not for nothing we have the latin name Homo Sapiens. Or are you simply not getting any, and you're jealous?

And of course there was the very male-looking Haruka Ten'ou, the butch in the relationship with her & Michiru Kaioh (Sailors Uranus & Neptune). To say nothing of the VERY bishounen (almost girly-boy) Jadeite, Nephrite, Zoisite, and Kunzite (especially in the original Naoko Takeuchi manga). And continuing the same-sex theme, there were indications that Makoto Kino (Sailor Jupiter) & Ami Mizuno (Sailor Mercury) had feelings for each other. Of course these were excised from the abortion that was the DIC version (they, 4Kids & Nelvana deserve to have MOAB devices dropped on them for raping SM, Tokyo Mew Mew & CardCaptor Sakura! GRRRR!). And if 'Sailor Man' is an anime fan, he'd better not watch Maria-sama ga Miteru* (a.k.a. Marimite)- and not because it's set in a Catholic girls' school, either!
