Certain occultists of the 21st century refused to watch television.
The whole thing of putting the television on or watching your phone for it to work effectively is that you get into a relaxed state( as these certain occultists would before scrying), before the input is fed to your subconscious, i maybe wrong ☺️

And the reason the evening news in conservative places starts the broadcast with “it’s 9 o’clock. Do you know where your children are?” is because the news magicians want to make sure the parents don’t know their children are actually in the basement of a pizza joint being cloned and then harvested for whatever!

If all you need is a black surface to function as a scrying mirror, just close your eyes.

OK, the reason why a tv that’s off is black is because ya know, tvs and monitors and phone screens and such work by producing light. What happens when you have no light? Blackness. That’s really the kind of thing I think most people should be able to figure out. Also, though, “magic mirrors”? WTF? How is shiny black painted wood “magic”?

Some people seem to think technology is magic. This is one of the rare cases where it’s completely literal.

I mean, it’s one thing to not understand how most things work. Most people have never fully understood how the technology they use works; they just need to know how to use it effectively and what its limitations are. Take arrows, for example; few people had a good grasp of how and why arrow fletching works, they just need to know how to fire a bow, and that you can’t just make an arrow work by randomly sticking a feather to it. This is kind of like claiming that arrows work because of sympathy magic (birds fly, so they lend their spirit to the arrow), which is a thing some people actually believed. And also doing things like trying to invoke arrow sympathy magic for “seeking the target” (this time trying to gain access to the spirit of the archer) in order to find something missing, which was also a thing. Or someone from another culture might use arrow sympathy as part of a love spell using a hunting metaphor…

These rely on (or at least originate from) culture-specific ideas and idioms which rarely translate well and have nothing to do with how the real world works. Because to people mired in magical thinking, the language they speak is itself a magical insight to reality, rather than an imperfect means of communication.
