Sick of this “country music = MAGA” attitude. Most of the old guard and a lot more of the alt-country scene are decidedly NOT conservative.
Look I get the frustration and horror at what is happening in the US but god do I also hate folks on the left just giving up on the U.S completely or hoping it falls and not caring how bad it’ll get for everyone, that sort of shit is NOT helping anything or anyone.
Also (not) happy to know that homophobic bullshit is still probably a thing for the Far-Left as it is among the Far-Right, if not as open as the Far-Right.

It’s just being realistic at this point. Not giving up or hoping it fails. The Democrats have proven over and over that they’re not even remotely up to the task of opposing the right wing, AOC nor Omar have the optics to rally enough people, and Bernie threw in the towel. We’re on our own here.

Um… Wow. I’ve heard this song since about 1975 and never, not once, thought the guy singing was or pretended to be conservative. Rather, he’s complaining about the conservatives’ reaction to people who are different. Always stupid, always the same.
EXACTLY! I think the 2nd verse makes that meaning quite clear:

Which sounds totally contradictory anyway, but if you know literally ONE DAMN THING about who Bob Seger is, the song is obviously autobiographical. It came out in the early 70s and he’d already been performing for a decade or so by that point. My mom grew up in Ann Arbor, MI, around that time, so I’ve heard the history, lol.
