Q: Atheists, would you believe the Bible if Genesis said that we had evolved from apes? ?

Details: If evolution were true, don't you think God would have admitted it? Wouldn't He have just cleared everything up by saying, "Billions of years ago, I created the Earth. Then I made some sea creatures like shellfish and scaly fish. Then I made amphibians, which I made turn into reptiles, then I made mammals. Then I took one of the mammals, a monkey, and made an ape out of it. Then I took the ape and changed its brain and voice box and made it stand up. Then I made humans out of them." If you saw that written, wouldn't you just think the Bible was the greatest book ever written, and historically "accurate"?

Maybe the reason why He DIDN'T write that is because it isn't true?

Not necessarily. My acceptance depends upon crediblity. I wouldn't disbelieve our descendence from ape-like beings just because it was in the Bible, but I need credible sources or logical process to accept any assertion.

You assume the exitence of God, I do not.

If God existed and he was a good and loving deity who wanted to be clear, he would have provided clear, compelling evidence of himself.

No. No, I would not. There are many problems with the Bible other than just the creation stories.

Maybe it's written as it is because it suited the needs of the misogynist, bigoted, genocidal primatives who wrote it.

God didn't write Genesis. Some bronze age Arab goat herder wrote it, and later people said God wrote it. The Bible also doesn't say the earth wasn't created billions of years ago. It just has some genealogies in it that work out to about 6,000 years ago. But the genealogies are notorious nonsense. Matthew's and Luke's disagree with each other, and Luke's disagrees with Chronicles.

Nowadays, we know that the man doesn't plant a seed in the woman like she's a friggin' corn field, and we know about molecules and genes and DNA. But KiraJenLove doesn't even understand evolution in the 21st century. If God created evolution, how would He explain it to some goat-herder?

We don't believe in your god, or any other god either. Therefore it doesn't matter to us whether you think your god would have admitted anything, no more than you'd care for what Shiva would have admitted.

The creation story of the Bible is most certainly intended to be allegorical, not literal.
The story in the Bible isn't that much different from the story you propose.

It's still a rather over-written, tedious book. And Genesis chapter one and two are still contradictory, and they are still just a small part of that book, the rest is no more historically accurate, just because you can interpret the first two chapters to almost follow reality.

A: Show us the hard, solid, physical evidence for the existence of your 'God' first -as in him appearing before us (and that's God himself; 'Jesus' not allowed) - then everything else will follow from that, natch.

Because that's what the whole science of Evolutionary Study & Biology is all about: Evidence. And that which has been found ever since Darwin's initial discoveries. Unlike fairytales in books - that have only myths behind them - as has been proven to date (and backed up legally, via Kitzmiller vs. Dover), theories have a rather nasty habit of becoming facts.

The Big Bang: 'theory'. The proof - via the Large Hadron Collider - that the Higgs-Boson exists. It's not looking good for you YECers & your 'Creation' myth.

I believe Egypt was real, the bible says Egypt was real, i do not believe the fantastical parts of the Bible. So, no. ANOTHER correct item in the book does not validate the book.

He didn’t reveal germ theory in time to save millions of people from infections.
He didn’t reveal that Earth was a globe.
He didn’t ’clear up’ anything about slavery being a bad thing.
So, no, i don’t think our modern understanding is something that would have been in a bronze age scroll. Or if it was, it wouldn’t have made it past editing where the books were chosen.
