A Norwegian woman has been sentenced to imprisonment for one year and four months in Dubai after she reported a rape.
- The woman reported a rape to the police in Dubai, but was not thought of this. We have been told that she herself was instead sentenced to one year and four months. The judicial system here has obviously taken the information she has given them and meant that she is guilty of anything, says Gisle Meling, a priest in the Seamen's Church in Dubai.

That's because, as Altemeyer discovered , authoritarians are both the demographic who most favor "four legs good, two legs bad!" tribalism and the demographic who handwave away wrongdoing by the authorities and have a "Comrade Stalin knows best" mentality instead of viewing laws as universal rules that the government has to abide by.
Authoritarians are both much more prejudiced than non-authoritarians in the same society, and much more in favor of censorship in any and all cases. This is why Laird Wilcox found that watchdog groups ostensibly on opposite ideological sides--like Elizabeth Dilling's Patriotic Research Bureau and the Anti-Nazi League--had the exact same behaviors and tactics. Both right-wing and left-wing watchdog groups rely on getting the public to fear Scary, Dangerous Radicals--and Altemeyer found that when people are asked to fill out the RWA Scale while imagining society is in danger or undergoing civil unrest, RWA scores go up, whether it's left-wing guerrillas or a right-wing attempted coup. The only exception is the Gandhi Trap where the government is cracking down on nonviolent protesters.

So when Christians are arrested and imprisoned for doing missionary work in some Muslim countries or North Korea, you think it's their own damn fault and they deserve what they get? Hmm, why do I doubt that?
And what about Otto Warmbier in North Korea? You live by the laws of the land you inhabit. So if anything, he is the only one to blame. He should have known better. You thought the North Koreans did everything right? Yeah, I bet you said he deserved what he got, sure.

This is terrible but I hope this woman is okay. I think I've heard this story from years ago and she's been free for years.
That said; This is awful! Even the awful "rape-survivor-shamey" doctrines of Abrahamic faiths have a thing about proving a rape, finding the rapist, punishing the rapist if it was proven a rape happened, etc (albeit in a very stupid way).
From what I heard; The Dubai P.D. didn't even bother to try to find the perp or investigate anything. A woman just reported to the police that she was victimized by some slug in a terrible assault and "BOOM!"....SHE'S going to jail!
It's like she was arrested for merely reporting....as if rape was 100% legal and men are entitled to rape and women are required by law to "take it".
