I would like to know why Christians are buying into the sanitation of language game by the homosexual community and using the "positive" term - gay. 99.9% I refuse to use it. Co-opting positive terms is a long-time manipulative ploy.

I hate those God damn language conspiracies. I want to be able to use the word fortune in casual conversation but the language conspiracy took that away from us.

Adrian: why do fundies claim that every change to our society is related to some sort of massive conspiracy that has vaugley defined goals but yet everyone seems to be in on it except the fundies, who are aware of it somehow? TM , so everything in the world is part of Satan's hidden conspiracy to destroy True ChristiansTM .

Witty - I really didn't think "gay" was meant as derogatory at first, though I don't know for sure. I really thought it came about because gay men (I'm thinking of Paul Lynde, Charles Nelson Reilly, Liberace and my hairdresser in the 70s) were, well, gay. Gay as in what gay meant before it meant homosexual. I think the term for what gay means there is now "fabulous." I know a lot of people were in the closet, but when you met these flamboyant men, or watched them, they were cheerful and funny and, really, cool. I really thought that's where the term came from, not as something mean-spirited. I think if someone wanted to be derogatory at the time "gay" first started being used they would instead say "queer." That was meant as derogatory (and has perhaps since been reclaimed.)
