I think most people would just wait for the government to reboot and go about their day, keeping an eye out for each other and any loonies like you. Just because the government isn't aroubd oir 24 hours doesn't mean they won't persecute you for crimes committed duribg it. Also which governmemt are you taling about? We had a federal government shutdown last year and nothing happened.

Would you now? Well, in societies where they don’t - or didn’t - have the rule of law, people have usually found other means of defending themselves: swords, spears and eventually guns. Or else they hired private armies to do it for them. What the women used to do, was a combination of both those things - potential rapists and murderers often found themselves impaled on a larger weapon.

Have fun with that.

@Titania: Not that this is meant to detract from your point (though it probably does a little) there’s a reason why rule of law is normally preferred - because unless a society is really devoted to pacifism, the murder rate is usually around 25-30%, i.e. there’s about 25-30% that your eventual cause of death will be murder. That doesn’t mean that people were randomly killing each other; it was often the only real way of dealing with repeated troublemakers - who were often abuse victims or people with special needs which were being ignored - and often the only way for abuse victims to make the abuse stop, which usually resulted in them being killed in revenge by their abuser’s relatives. Also a psychopath or a delusional idiot could often keep getting away with it for awhile if they could successfully appeal to supernatural justifications. That being said, societies lacking formal rule of law nearly always took a really dim view of rape, and it wasn’t unheard of for women to be expected to kill the rapist themselves while others held them down or otherwise made it easy, so…

There are probably some incels who value their own lives so little that they’d freely rape and murder in “revenge” even if they’d have a rather short lifespan as a result… provided that they managed to get over their crippling depression and didn’t otherwise meaningfully change as a result, which is a big if. I mean, they don’t actually need a lack of rule of law if they were really that motivated and self-destructive.

That’s funny. I’ve seldom if ever have felt LAW to be interfering. Guess I’m one of the supposed few that don’t have a monster inside. (Though, I don’t think we are as few as this dolt thinks.)

I would NOT kill or rape, as I would have to live with the knowledge that I had done that, even if no law accused me of it.

Most people are inhibited more by, and here’s a new concept for you, dearie; THEIR CONSCIENCE. People in general don’t want to cause other people harm or suffering. The laws are more there to form a basic net of rules, that we agree on following. Only psychopaths and sociopaths lack this basic human principle.

Politicians are working FOR us, implementing those policies that were decided in elections. Or, they SHOULD do this, but power corrupts. That’s why you should not have money in politics, and why you should have new politicians now and then, remove the upper “layer” every ten years or so.

SOME humans are “way beyond dumb”, that’s for sure.

Funny; the things I’d like to do if the law was gone are pretty much the exact same things I do anyway. Except perhaps I’ll add illegal downloading to that, but that’s it. No, the only things stopping me from doing all that I desire are my own insecurities. And in some cases reality itself (such as wanting to be a mage in a fantasy world, or exploring space ST style, but I digress). But certainly not the law or general ethics.

Why, it’s almost like a large amount of humans aren’t murderous & psychotic scum like incels are!

Seriously, give me the Infinity Gauntlet or something, and I swear upon everything dear to me, I still wouldn’t want to hurt anyone! Even the orange monster, despite my fantasies, I still wouldn’t kill because that’s just not who I am. Maybe give him some bad luck or something, and a micropenis and baldness, sure, but that’s it. No, I’d probably use that power for harmless, selfish entertainment and maybe even clean up all pollution and increase our food supplies.

Just because you have power to abuse doesn’t mean you should.
