...and because the actual psychologists couldn't figure out an actually effective cure . Which was especially ridiculous because it isn't actually harmful to anyone to begin with.
If you claim to have found a cure to something that isn't even a harmful condition, you'd better have pretty solid proof that what you're doing is actually effective. (Don't bother - the actual results from conversion therapy are less than stellar. Which just may have had something to do with the ban.)

I wouldn't say that homosexuality is harmless. If teenagers could actually be cured of the gay, I guarantee you that many would lunge at the opportunity to escape the constant physical and psychological abuses that they face on a daily basis- that is, if they weren't already in love.
If anything, the conversion "therapy" is doubly harmful in that it gives the teenagers a false hope that they can cast off their curse and be accepted as "normal" by their intolerant peers.
And before anyone brings it up, I'm not saying that homosexuality is a curse because it is inherently bad, I'm saying it's a curse because the intolerant MAKE it a curse.

JGC was slightly altering the text to say the conversion therapy itself is politically motivated, rather than homosexuality's removal from the DSM-III.
That's pretty fantastic. Every other state should follow suit. Eventually "conversion therapy" will be all but gone. Only the most desperate, depraved, deluded, sick people would ever think to put their own children through such a harmful thing.
It's just like parents getting brought up on charges if they rely on "faith healing" instead of getting their child the proper medical attention they need. Quackery is quackery.
