I feel that MacArthur's biggest mistake was he did not make the Japanese convert to Christianity.
But if MacArthur would have had them become Christian of which he could have as he was supreme commander to a country that had surrendered to him we could have had the Church right at the edge of China and in Asia. What a victory we could have had.

"What a victory we could have had."
Yes, forcing people to say they believe your bullshit is always a good way to propagate that bullshit.
I'm sure all those Chinese, British and Commonwealth soldiers would be pleased to know that their work wasn't needed.
I'll send my father's Burma Star back
You don't think that god's gonna be fooled by that "conversion through coercion" nonsense, do you? Do you? Really? A-hahahaha, what a joker. Nice one, James! Did you crack them all up at Sunday school with that one?
...and yet, your pathetic impotent bleatings have availed you naught, re. your insane notion that somehow your 'opinion' will bend reality to your will.
So, to quote Gen. MacArthur on that day on board the USS Missouri: 'These proceedings are closed '.
Japan: still mainly Shinto/Zen Buddhist.
James of Arse: still butthurt.
Awesome. That way, we could have had a lengthy, bloody occupation that soaked up millions of lives on both sides and would have eventually ended up with America retreating in shame, like a Vietnam X 100. That's not even addressing the core issue, which is that your notion is both completely insane and wrong on every conceivable level.
That would've reduced efficiency in production and made many Japanese pro-Soviet, you wouldn't want that, would you? The reason America was so light on Japan was because of the need for a strong ally in the Cold War against China and the Soviets.
But don't worry, you got South Korea, aren't you happy with that?
@Tempus
Actually, the Americans would have gladly massacred as many Japanese as it would have taken to occupy the islands to have peace, hence Admiral Halsey's "By the time we're done, they'll only speak Japanese in hell" line. That's why a few years ago there was a shortage in Purple Hearts because from WWII into the 2010s, the Army relied on Purple Hearts made in 1945 for the prepared invasion of Japan. It wasn't gonna be a Vietnam thing, that's for sure.

China and Asia, as well, you say.
What a victory we could have had.
We? Have you a turd in your pocket?
The Japanese are rather eclectic in religious matters. They fly koi-shaped kites to celebrate Boy's Day (which is Shinto), contemplate Zen rock gardens, and enjoy Christmas immensely.
I wish Americans were so broad-minded.
Yes, because God doesn't care about things like free will (HIS GIFT TO HUMANITY) when he can have several thousand reluctant servants who obey the words of the crazed murderers that call themselves his faithful without actually listening to his word.
And I have this nice bridge I could sell you for $20!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
