Hasan Piker has been pretty spot on in my opinion on why (outside the transphobic bubble) TERFs and conservatives mostly failed when it came to using bathrooms against transpeople (with public opinion in the US mostly being against bathroom bills and them not really having an effect on elections) while they seem to have a public majority behind them when using the âtransathletes in sportsâ argument: Much of the population thinks in terms of âfairnessâ and meritocracy and judge accordingly (meritocracy is not at all what is actually going on in the US but I digress). So the narrative of evil transwomen using âunfairâ advantages in sports is a much more palatable one to the public, seeing as it is not about weird, often logic-breaking laws that force people into certain bathrooms (that donât necessarily need to be gender segregated anyway), but instead it is about poor cis-woman athletes somehow being completely overwhelmed by the 0.1 percent trans athletes they might encounter, maybe never again able to win in their own sport categories.
