It’s not that perfect, you probably have 30 to 50 mutations that don’t come from either parent.
And it’s a chemical process, not a computer program. The explanation is that it works to replicate AND allows evolution to slip in.
If there IS a God, why would there be mistakes?

Hovind, I’m not a microbiologist or biochemist or anything that deals with deoxyribonucleic acid, but even I know that Homo Sapiens’ DNA strands contain a LOT of leftover “junk data” from back when we were not even primates yet… Said “junk data” is the very reason the medical condition of Atavism can exists.

It’s like what <@KeithInc.> said, if a perfect God designed our DNA, and it was not formed through trial and error evolution, then how come that junk data exists at all?

Countless, countless iterations of feedback loops.

Also, you are looking at this from the wrong direction: Ultimately, life is not the origin of the molecular machinery, but rather, the molecular machinery is the origin of life.

But if there is a Creator?

You know what, fine. Let’s assume for a moment, Hovind, that Homo Sapiens was artificially engineered instead of naturally evolved. You still haven’t proven AT ALL that said “creator(s)” was specifically the Judeo-Christian God of the Abrahamic Religions. Or even ANY god at all. For all we know, the Alterans or the Founders or the Engineers or even the Isu engineered us as a dumb(er) servant race or something… Or maybe we were just an embarrasing mistake.

Cool. According to their premise, DNA is complex, so it must be created. A god able to create anything, in particular something as complex as DNA, has to be complex. So, how was that god created. If the special plea is that god is somehow different, I will cut down on a step in the reasoning and claim that DNA is special, but does not require the added complexity of a god to work.

Sure it does. Natural selection would favor the ability to filter out genetic mistakes, and species with that advantage would outcompete their rivals. Their descendants make up the plants and animals (including humans) alive today.

So, after failling at thermodynamics, Hovind fails at chemistry?

Simple. You don't understand high school science.

Bingo! That is a thing that’s always utterly baffled me, how people like this seem to think that only two options are available: Christianity or atheism. Or really, it’s more like they think they only two possible things to choose from are fundamentalist young-Earth-creationist Christianity and “strong atheism” (where you’re 100% certain no gods exist).
