[Re: A Crowdsourcing Campaign Directed Against Susan Collins]
"I consider this quid pro quo fundraising to be the equivalent of an attempt to bribe me to vote against Judge Kavanaugh," she told the conservative site Newsmax. She also told the Wall Street Journal that two lawyers told her the campaign violated federal bribery law and a third said it was extortion.

For fucks sake it is fundie because you cannot vote this man into office, this isn`t partisanship, this is human rights issue, a crucial one at that. That fuckhead will reel back the basic freedoms you people enjoy at least a 100 years and if you prefer to be a good sportsman to him instead, then I say you must care more about process and governmental institutions than your own rights and freedom. There should be a strong message out there that if this man ever gets near the supreme court, there will be a bloody uprising(like what trumpoo`s fans say for when he`s impeached) but who am I to tell you how to not lose your own country to fanatics and fascists. Only a person who already lost hers, I suppose.
This is about whether a guy who once ordered the concealment of a scientific study about environmental destruction done by a company in order to protect said company's stock value should get a seat at the uppermost judicial organ of the (hopefully not for long now) world's arguably most powerful country. People may not like some tactics of his opponents, but it's not like there's not a host of very good reasons why they are getting desperate to win. Though it's kind of funny to see so many self-declared "American patriots" supporting something which will only make their country even more of a bad joke on the international scene. Quite the "patriotism" there.
Am I missing something? She's a swing vote for the Kavanaugh thing and she's getting death threats by some less savery people on the left. How is this fundie?
She's not getting death threats, there's a group in Maine raising money to help vote her out in 2020 if she votes for this asshole to be put on the Supreme Court, and she's claiming that this kind of fundraising is BRIBERY, while she routinely takes money from rich billionaires to act "moderate" and then vote their way.
It's fundie because Senator Collins is trying to criminalize legitimate political organizing. The crowdfunding campaign isn't offering her anything of value in exchange for an official action hence it's not a bribe. If she votes "yes" the campaign keeps the money and donates it to a candidate. If she votes no than they refund it. She doesn't gain or lose anything.
When corporations and anonymous billionaires do this it's called "free speech." Why is it bribery when average Americans do it senator?
@ DarkPhoenix
Yes she is.
"The Maine Republican has reported receiving threatening calls and letters as well as more than 3,000 wire coat hangers in a grim reference to the unsafe, illegal abortions that abortion-rights defenders say would follow the end of Roe v. Wade.""
Okay maybe not death threats exactly.
...meanwhile, Labour MPs - now backed up by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan - are giving Theresa May Not a simple choice: have a 2nd Referendum re. 'Brexit': thus ensure her political survival for up to this time next year, or she's out of No. 10 by this Xmas.
Perhaps the same - exerting political influence - can be done via a new influx of Democrats in Capitol Hill: before December...?!
Funding to give you personally money for a vote would be bribery. Funding to give your *campaign* money to get elected for a vote isn't technically bribery, but it's damned close and happens all the time by large companies and is the source of much corruption.
But pretending this is either one of those is blatantly lying.
This is funding to give your hypothetical OPPONENT, whomever that may turn out to be, campaign money to get elected. Nobody who regularly takes campaign money from companies wanting her vote (which Susan Collins does ALL the time) has any right to complain about this.
And, creativerealms, the quote is about alleging the crowdsourcing campaign is bribery, not about alleging death threats. Even in the imaginary universe you're pretending to believe in where the coat hangar thing is a death threat, its also NOT what this quote is actually about. THIS quote is essentially claiming "funding my opponent's campaign is a bribe of me" which is bullshit and you know it.
"...an attempt to bribe me to vote against Judge Kavanaugh,"
It's just not the right amount, yet.
It's just not the right amount, yet.
She's probably got an even larger "contribution" from ALEC to vote for Kavanaugh. Of course, the fundraiser money isn't being raised for her; it's being raised to contribute to a hypothetical opponent if she's stupid enough to decide that ALEC money is better than sticking to her so-called principles.
Sen. Collins; If the majority of people are saying that Kavanaugh is a pox on humanity, you need to vote for what they ask. That's called "Serving The American People".
If you vote for Brett the Butthead then we will gladly vote for "Susan Collins has no job". Got it?
Sure; You boobs may put in a bunch of big annoying speedbumps into the "Voting Highway" but voting is still fully-legal and we still have a voice (even if it takes a tad more effort).
Judging by what's just blown up re. Kavanaugh, not even a small loan of a billion dollars will be enough.
The curse of '#MeToo' strikes again...!
@ Anon-e-moose: Yeah, right. Corbyn isn't about to allow a free vote on an anti-Brexit motion. (Besides, if we did have Brexit ref 2, and voted Remain, the EU will just laugh and say, Nope, you have to apply again, suckers.)
@2166627
Nope. Had there been another referendum, the entire UE would be more than glad to just let bygones be bygones and put that moment of insanity behind us. Have you never read Verhofstadt? We`d all be delighted if they wished to return on their own, the tough rhetoric is only there for the exit option. Sure we`d make some mericless satire on the UK for the next couple years but all , seriously all would be glad they got their minds back.
@Moose you know you`re still a fellow european to me first, fellow commonwealther second(exactly two years till I get to become a loyal subject of Her Majesty like you are), brit third(hope it`s cool with you).
@#2166630
I hope with the revelation of the sexual assault by Kavanaugh he loses. I really do. Which is the way I think it should be done. Not bribing senators but by the means of least corruption. Fuck Kavanaugh
I totally agree, and I'm hopeful that he'll be voted down. If not, then I believe that will hurt the Republicans even more this November if they voted yes to an attempted rapist.
FFS, I remember back in the 80's when they refused to affirm Douglas Ginsburg simply because he smoked pot back in college in the 60's. Yet here we have someone who apparently tried to rape a woman back in high school and the Senate can't seem to agree that's bad enough to keep him off the Court.
@Doubting Thomas:

Yeah, it probably will. The problem is, they're looking at it like this: "Yeah, we'll probably lose everything by voting this asshat in, but we'll control the US Supreme Court for 30 or 40 years! They'll prevent anything the Democrats want to do, and then we'll be able to get in and start really going to town on people's rights and funnelling wealth to the rich!"
And that's assuming they don't pull a Reichtag Fire and try to stop voting period. It wouldn't surprise me, considering they're so close to fascist rule they can taste it...
@Moose
Thanx!
As for the clown who might become SCOTUS....did you know that SCOTUS can be impeached as well?
Eeyup! Even if Kavanaugh gets in, we still have a chance to get him out! It's important that those of us from the USA VOTE BLUE in November so we can Impeach the whole Trumpster Dumpster!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
