If I were Macron I would go on TV and announce to the youth of France that if they don't feel like getting an free state-paid education, they can stay at home, but if they stand in school entrances and try to block others from entering, the police will shoot them dead. They'd only need to kill a few dozen and [the student protests/riots] nonsense would be over.

Yes, yes, threaten the people who still have the instructions to build guillotines. Tell them they have nothing to lose, that’ll quiet them down.
Ok, then you go to school from 8am to 6pm in a dilapidated old building without proper heat or cooling. You sit and watch as your teachers are let go and your class sizes balloon to the point that the teachers that are still there don’t have time to help you if you need it. You show up to school to find no one teaching your class that day because there aren’t enough substitutes. You apply to college using a system that will only route your application to the schools you want if you come from wealthier districts of France.
You might be somebody who thinks teenagers would love this and nobody cares about their school. Let me tell you - if you are lucky enough to go to a school where teachers actually have the time and ability to bond with their students, where you get to choose from classes where you get to learn things that are interesting and useful in a way that engages your mind and abilities, where the school staff care about you and what happens to you, where you are allowed to make your own curriculum, take university courses, and do projects out in the community, you care what happens to your school.
I know, because I was lucky enough to go to a school like this. And I also know because the entire time I was there the school board tried to shut it down.

Same here, I could dislike some parts of the main curriculum but I honestly loved hanging out at my HS, the teachers were cool and passionate about their classes, the sizes were maybe not the tiniest but definitely not bloated(not like my middle school where we once for a year or so had only 7 folks in the classroom, now that gave our teachers a playing field), the place was well kept enough people would rather go out to smoke cigs behind the dumpster than in the toilets and all around I remember very inspired atmosphere, hell our polish lit teach once literally stood up on his desk to recite some nationally important, old polish poem.
You don’t get indifferent to a school like this. Every single teacher was really awesome about their subject and while we weren’t the strictest school on rules(boozed up cola bottles were tacitly tolerated for seniors on school trips with a obvious agreement that they were supposed to act civilized still and we had our math teach regularly play card games with his math club and I don’t mean MtG for example) that also meant giving the students more freedom to be their own teen selves. I believe it’s really worth it to fight for more places like that and apparently so do the French.
Confused?
