Quite possibly, there is. But that is no reason to refuse to admit those in dire need of help. As for the "stark picture of Europe's new reality," terrorism in Europe has been a thing for over a century and Islamic fundamentalism for over 30 years. If you want to write about Europe, you might want to find out a bit about what happens there first.
Oh FFS, stop being terrified of Syrian refugees. If ISIS wanted to send terrorists over here, all they'd have to do is get some fake passports and buy some plane tickets like the 9/11 terrorists did. No need to undergo the extensive background checks the Syrian refugees will undergo.
