I fully agree on that. When I’m in a depressed mood I actually prefer to play not emotional games, but rather dumb fun games like fighting games or Doom or Ratchet & Clank or even Skyrim. Or even some survival horror so I can shoot back at the things that scare me.

Clair Obscur is definitely worth the price of admission on the visuals alone. But the acting and utter gut-punches...it's an emotional rollercoaster for sure.

But a game doesn't even have to be Serious Art to make a difference. I do a regular games night at a mental health ward, usually Jackbox, some other party games and a few who actually roleplay together on Sunderfolk (using it as a gateway to tabletop gaming), and the difference in the moods and mental state are just night and day. That little bit of silly enjoyment and social interaction makes a big difference.

Tbh, on some small level I can understand it. None of us asked to be born after all. But instead of angsting about it and putting the entire world out of our misery, we should probably try to improve the world for future generations to be born into.

Also, I haven’t played Clair Obscur yet, though I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. Maybe I should save some money for it. But yeah, I also know of some games that made me emotional. GoW Ragnarok, for one. Also the entire “Dread Wolf” story from Dragon Age Inquisition and Veilguard. Hell, the ending of Digimon Hacker’s Memory even made me tear up a bit.

As soon as somebody is far enough down the rabbit hole to not only bring up efilists, but make similar arguments to them, it's usually time to be a little concerned. Whole movement is basically death-cult anti-natalism with a heavy dose of determinism, based on pseudophilosophical ramblings about life being suffering and there is no way to improve it because we're all machines following an evolutionary script in a world designed to destroy us(and outright preaches that murder is therefore morally right because it ends suffering).

But research always shows how exaggerated the rumours are. Some private houses had bunkers. There are caves, as the whole town’s on sandstone bedrock and springs are popping out (same as Wiesbaden) and there are Victorian storm-drains. And there’s a big underground shelter in the woods off Broadwater Down, all flooded now, that the locals call ’Monty’s bunker’ even though there is no evidence he was ever there or was considering using it.
