Singh was initially sentenced to death by a CBI court in Bhubaneswar on September 22, 2003, while Hembram and 11 others were sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Orissa High Court later commuted Singh’s death sentence to life imprisonment on May 19, 2005, and acquitted 11 of the 14 convicts. Hembram’s conviction was upheld.
In total, 51 individuals were arrested in connection with the Staines murder case between 1999 and 2000. Thirty-seven were acquitted in the initial trial, and one juvenile was released in 2008 following an appeal.
The release of Hembram comes at a politically charged moment in Odisha. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had earlier supported a campaign for the release of Dara Singh, returned to power in the state last year after defeating its former ally, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), in the assembly elections. Mohan Majhi, now the Chief Minister and formerly the Keonjhar MLA, had publicly backed the demand for Singh’s release.
On March 19 this year, the Supreme Court directed the Odisha Government to take a decision regarding Dara Singh’s plea for premature release. Officials have stated that the matter is under consideration and a final decision is expected in the coming weeks.
Alongside Hembram, 30 other convicts from various prisons in Odisha were also released on similar grounds.

I’ve only read volumes 1-3, but I know the most explicit Sasaki and Miyano gets is a kiss. Heartstopper is more explicit than that, and that’s a work that only implies the lead couple had sex. And yet that work’s PG enough to be shown to teenagers and young adults!

And yes, it’s actually a very heartwarming and light-hearted story. The only reason someone’d call for a ban on it is because they think gayness is too much for children’s eyes. Which is such a stupid thing to think. Queer people exist, and denying it out of feelings of offense is just pathetic.

If it were sexually explicit, I could kinda understand it being banned, but as far as I can tell, it’s totally not. From the Wikipedia article on the manga:

And going by that logic why not look to immigration for population and workforce “shortfalls” to keep the economy strong? Oh wait, adding a racial context “changes everything” doesn’t it? Because heaven forbid the population grows through immigration rather than “purebred” children raised “the right way” to see nothing but themselves as legitimate inheritors of the world.

The only “reason” to have a child is that you are ready, willing, and able to love and provide for them. Not to “complete” the family. Not for “legacy” or “duty” to a bloodline. Not because “it’s your purpose to exist” like you don’t matter and never will nor will that child by that logic. Not for a religious imperative. Not because you “owe” it to anyone. Not because you have some grand plan for them beyond them maturing into the best person they can be with the best shot at making their own life. But because you are ready, willing, able, and have chosen to devote yourself to one more life in the world.

There are many false arguments, some that I immediately remember:
- "Noah's flood deposited those organisms there" - obvious nonsense, because the flood story is a myth adapted from a more ancient polytheist myth; if it had happened, it would be in a period of time way too young for what we know about the dating and the deep time involved; the story is ridiculously impossible on so many points that it could only be metaphor. This pseudoscientific argument also conflicts with the observations that the layers are not settled/ordered by gravity, which would happen if it was produced by a single mass event.
- One fossil found out of layer chronology must taint all the record of otherwise well chronologically ordered specimens. Also nonsense. Known processes can occur at places causing some local specimens to be out of order, it's not important and easily explained. It does not conflict with the fact that everywhere else there are clear layers with the older organisms found deeper. Then of course, the rarity of fossils says a lot about the power of the scientific method: inference allowed by theories with predictive power, permits to know where to search for the next transitional fossils, it's not a blind random search. I was raised in a cult that also lied to me about science, presented straw men of it and misrepresented it. It also misconstrued ancient mythology as "science" that should somehow dictate what we're allowed to investigate or not about the natural world and our origins.

Imagine the deception and my low opinion of their propaganda today. If they had been more humble and did not try to posit themselves as more informed than the best informed, perhaps that they'd deserve a little more respect.

They also projected their own hypocrisy and pride against science, claiming that science attempts to "play God" instead of humbling itself. While the cult is twisting ancient scripture to speak for God itself, conspiring to cut its fidels from the world and manipulate them.

Your main problem, like theirs, and like the Expelled propagandists, is that willingly or not, you're actually lying as part of an agenda of control and exploitation. Part of the deception is turning you against the world and knowledge to manipulate you. Meaning that if you're not among the malicious, you're among their useful idiots.

Outside of those fabulations, in reality, there really is overwhelming evidence for evolution and those verifiable discoveries are not a plot against religion. If creationists fail to convince the scientific community it's because they are unable to provide better explanations for the observations in reputable relevant scientific journals.

Then science being a universal process, it's open to people of all origins who are qualified. But it's also part of its method to deal with the normal human fallacies of scientists. Actual uncorrupt education should of course attempt to reflect some of the knowledge attained. Public education is a main target of corruption attempts by conspiracies from the Discovery Institute, Heritage Foundation and others.

So they resort to more deception, propaganda campaigns against science, like this film, pushing conspiracy theories of "oppressive science". It's called bullshit. They also resort to authoritarian deception, like the corruption of the law to restrict education and push their indoctrination.

ID pseudoscience "expelled" by not allowing the corruption of public education biology textbooks with it, positing a false balance between political social control argument and untainted actual knowledge? That's honesty and integrity, not oppression.

Preventing churches and parents from sharing their beliefs? Not the business of science, education or government. You need strong evidence for your extraordinary conspiracy theories.

As for flat-Earthers, some actually still exist today, alienated from reality.
