"We are so blessed to be in a country ruled by George W. Bush,”
This is America. Bush does not “rule”; he “governs.” The difference is that the first one is done regardless of the will of the people and the second is done with the consent of the people. His propaganda, fear mongering, and back-door cronyism got him this far, and it looks like the house of cards he constructed out of lies and half-truths is about to come crashing down.
“
the greatest president in history.”
The history of what? The world? That’s a pretty tall statement and I doubt that you have the breadth of knowledge to conclusively make it. (I’m reminded of the scene in “Two Weeks Notice” when Sandra Bullock tells Hugh Grant that she thinks he is “the most selfish human being on the planet,” and he responds, “Well that’s just silly. Have you met everybody on the planet?”) Even if you are arguing that he is the greatest president in US history, you still can’t defend that statement.
What has Bush done, exactly? Failed to stop a terrorist attack. Failed to capture Osama in Afghanistan, despite basically owning the country now. Failed to successfully prosecute a war in Iraq. Failed to respond to a massive national disaster in the US. Failed to bridge the gaps between Dems and Reps. Failed to control Federal spending. Failed to reform Social Security as he promised he would. Failed to reflect the will of the people in positions on issues such as stem cell research and civil rights. Failed to follow the laws of the very nation he governs with illegal and unconstitutional domestic spying. Failed capitalize on a world-wide outpouring of support and empathy following 9/11. Failed to establish a memorial for 9/11 or to competently assist the victims. Failed to remain consistent in his statements, positions, and facts. Failed to adhere to international law and the Geneva Convention.
In fact, it seems that the Bush administration, once you get past the flag waving and nationalism, is one long litany of failure. So much so that even his own party is deserting him with mid-term elections looming. One does not become the “greatest,” by being the greatest failure.
”He's the only person who has the guts to take the war around the world and not have one here.”
Pure Jingoism. Wouldn’t it be better to not have the war at all? That’s an idea Bush refuses to even consider.
”He's the only one who knows that you have to attack or be attacked.”
No, the world rarely presents us with an “A or B problem.” There are almost always many, many possible directions. Bush simply wants you to think that it is kill or be killed because his power is based on keeping you afraid.
”He's the only one who knows how to get the job done.”
Then why hasn’t he?
”Why? Because he's ruled by God, and God tells him what to do.”
If god is controlling him, why is he so consistently failing in everything? Why did he not anticipate Katrina? Why did he have a completely false concept of what would happen after Saddam was ousted? Why can he not find bin Laden? Why does he have problems remaining consistent in his statements? Is god telling him false information? If god is controlling him, and he is failing, that must mean he is not, in fact, following god’s directives, but is following his own, selfish instincts.
In the book of Acts, the Pharisee Gamaliel tells the Sanhedrin that they should let Peter and the Apostles go, because if their motives are of human origin, they will certainly fail, and if they are of God, then fighting against them would be useless because you would be fighting against God. Well, Bush sure as hell keeps failing, and those fighting against him seem to be succeeding, so what does that tell you
? You really need to actually read your Bible if you intend to argue with me.
”Also, he listens to God on other important issues like stem sell research and homosexuals, and Bush knows that both are very wrong and should be outlawed.”
Then why hasn’t he? Oh, that’s right
because the Constitution of the United States says he can’t. So a human document is thwarting the Instrument of the Most High God. Pretty impotent God, I must say.
”I can't wait for the elections and Bush will have all the power he needs on every level.”
Sorry, but it looks like the elections will be reducing his power. Or don’t you know what a 32% approval rating means
? Even his own party is abandoning him trying to put as much distance between the President and themselves so they at least have a chance of getting re-elected.
”We need a country that isn't afraid of anything, that isn't going to tolerate people who shouldn't be here, and that isn't going to tolerate homosexuals littering our streets.”
Do you realize that you are describing Iran?
”Thank God for George W. Bush. I hope he can get elected again -- he should change that law too."
Well, at least in the end you admit that Bush is doing everything he can to change the laws to suit his own agenda. But I wouldn’t hold your breath on the whole “third term” thing. Bush has about as much chance of being re-elected as Traci Lords does of winning the Oscar for Best Male Perfomance In a Drama, even if he could run again.
