Let’s be clear. Covid cases are up. My local hospital is PACKED with people suffering from Covid, the flu, and RSV. FULL. 12 hour ER waiting time. NO beds.
On the front door of my retail shop, I have this sign posted at eye level. (“Welcome! Enter here and pick up your FREE Hospital Bill Prevent Device” with a picture of a mask.)
Then, when you walk in, you see this sign on the table right in front of you. (“Masks Required”). There’s a basket on the table with masks in it.
I even have a flashing light that illuminates the sign and the mask basket.
Today 90% of people who walked in my door did so, and blew right past both signs WITHOUT A MASK ON. The only people who didn’t were my regular customers who know the drill.
I had to ask them all to go back to the front table to get a mask and put it on. A FREE mask. BTW, it’s costing me about $60/month to provide people with masks to defend myself and my employees.
One of my employees who also couldn't take it any more, put a sign right in front of the mask basket that says “BLUE SIDE OUT.” You have to reach over the sign to pick up a mask. 50% of the people put their mask on with the blue side IN. OK, at least they put it on…
I have many questions:
1. WHY the every-loving F*CK are masks not required everywhere??? Seriously. Did the CDC just cave because the mob of idiots were loud and scary? I’m appalled. And don’t get me started on vaccines. (Yes, I’ve had all my shots and boosters.)
2. Do people blow past my signs because they think they can just NOT follow the rules? (My visit to the hardware store over the weekend had me shaking my head at the MULTIPLE “Masks Highly Recommended” signs that were completely ignored by everyone except me and my husband. NOBODY else - except one checker- was wearing one.)
3. Do I have to go back to using the red velvet ropes I was using in 2020 to make sure people masked up before entering? It’s a pain in the ass, but it worked.
4. WHY the ever-loving F*CK do people not WANT to wear masks???? Do they WANT to get sick? Do they WANT to kill or disable their neighbors?
5. Am I delusional that I can actually protect myself against this brain-eating, organ-destroying M-F’er of a bug? Or even just the flu. Who the hell wants the flu??? (Which can kill you too, BTW...)
I have had a theory for a long time that Americans can’t see cause and effect farther away than 30 seconds and/or one step. Is it that? Can they just not do the math? Or are Americans so selfish that the just really don’t give a flying f*ck about anybody but themselves — and not even themselves! Or their kids. Or their grannies.
And I’m not even talking about the couple of customers every day who make a rude comment and just leave because they won’t wear a mask. Or the lady today who told me she couldn’t put one on because it would ruin her makeup and she had a job interview later. REALLY???????? Sorry. No shirt, no shoes, no mask, no entry. Should I add “no brain” to that list?
