Through Charles Darwin’s work, he provided a supposed scientific justification for a very particular kind of racism.

He wrote some despicable things in his book, The Descent of Man, that led to all kinds of horrific atrocities.

For instance, Darwin considered the Australian Aboriginal people as basically the "missing links" in human evolution, as they were supposedly closer to the claimed ape-like ancestor. Hitler and Margaret Sanger adopted Darwins' ideas regard the supposed evolution of man which provided a foundation for the the murder of tens of millions of human beings through the Holocaust and abortion (eg: Planned Parenthood which Sanger founded).

Darwin was very anti-racist by the standards of his times, born into a society so deeply suffused by racism - having practised slavery, which Darwin despised, for centuries already - that even people firmly on the anti-racist side of the Overton window like Abraham Lincoln (who, by the way, endorsed Darwin’s theory) retained views that are rather racist by today*s standard.

Historically, racists have often been very uncomfortable with Darwinian evolution and the universal kinship of humanity that is implied by it. In fact, the Third Reich, Dixie segregationists and the Apartheid regimes all suppressed its teaching….

And it is not as if Europeans needed needed evolution to designate sub-Saharan Africans as subhuman primitives. The fun thing is, one of the arguments in favour of this could well serve as a Creationist example of the perils of abandoning *sola scripture* Biblical literalism in favour of theological speculation, but you barely see Creationists doing so…

Also:
- The notion of some creatures being more evolved and thus superior is a crass misinterpretation that is rooted in firmly pre-Darwinian, partially Christian, ideas that persisted due to their deep entrenchment in European, and especially Colonialist, thought.
- Science seeks to describe the world as it is, not as it ought to be, and the possible moral consequences of a scientific notion has no bearing on its truth.
- Evolution is not a religion based on the revelations of an exalted prophet, so the character of Darwin is completely irrelevant to modern evolutionary biology, anyways.

If you're going by character rather than science, then you can't blame segregation or apartheid on Darwin because he was an abolitionist.

But Ken Ham and his ilk had decided on “the Theory of Evolution promotes racism!” and they would not budge.

So, wait, the Nazis adopted Darwinism, AND burned Darwin’s books because…. Um… What?

Just like the Bible has been used to justify racism and crimes against humanity, like for instance, the "Cain bloodline" and others. But biology is not about that. And just like Social Darwinism is abuse rationalization that must not be confused with actual biology. Just like today's racialist arguments are pseudoscientific, outside of actual science. Actually, according to biology, we're simply all Homo Sapiens. And who are you to lecture about biology, a reality-rejecting YEC crackpot?

Yeah people of Darwin's day were super racist and did some horrible, horrible things. It doesn't invalidate Darwin's work. This is a "poisoning the well."

Ken, Darwin could have taken cocaine to abuse his daughter with a pickled polar bear’s dick, and invented Nazi German, and his scientific contributions would be no less an advancement of the state of human knowledge.

Um, Ken? Your favorite book has a passage where a guy protects his guests from a crowd by offering his daughters to be raped. Who later raped him.

Your book says you can beat a slave to death if he at least lasts 3 days after the beating.
Your book says if you own a slave, you own his kids, too. That’s not like hiring a servant, Ken.
Your book says if you suspect your wife cheated on you, you can get the priests to give her a trial by abortion.

You’re in NO fucking position to declare a book’s contents despicable.

No need of evolution to justify racism: the curse of Ham helped to justify slavery.

So, if we were to find new historical evidence proving that Isaac Newton had been some sort of ultra-racist protohitler, would gravity suddenly stop existing?
