(In response to Pope Francis encouraging Christians to help end poverty)
Wait, what???? This is just not biblical. Scripture says we will always have the poor among us.

Maybe, but…
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
Sure, just because you hate the Pope (or Catholicism) that much, you’re willing to reject and scorn one of the major tenets of your own religion (and as a non-Christian, may I also add one of the more positive).
Fuck sectarianism.
Matthew 19:21.
So why aren't you obeying the 'Word' of your God, Abbers...?!
Start with that computer of yours: Next stop, your nearest branch of Computer Exchange or Cash Converters.
Whatever charity you give the money you made from selling that computer is up to you. For you know what you'll be admitting every second you're not obeying that part of Scripture...!
we will always have the poor among us.
Well, yes. Logic (not the bible) does dictate that in any kind of capitalistic society (and even without one) there will always be those who have less possessions and wealth than others. But that really still doesn’t mean we actively have to make the difference between the two as great as it physically possible…
Even if it’s impossible to make all the poor people rich, it’s still perfectly possible (and morally required) to make them less poor.
Without speaking about solidarity rules in the Old Testament, prophets attacking the well-off for neglecting the welfare of the lesser classes and Jesus speaking about solidarity, several letters from Paul are about managing the solidarity fund; indeed, the first churches were often created as collegium where members helped each other and outside persons, which helped to their missionary efforts.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
