How about we first define the family and expand that definition to mean all sorts of permanently cohabitating folks who choose to identify themselves as such, then we can talk. Seriously, Mom and Dad with 2.3 children where Mommy stays home and cooks (except when she has live in help and does absolutely nothing other than being on the School Council) while Daddy goes to work and earns enough to support everyone including paying for a huge suburban house, a two car garage, buying cars for the kids 16th birthday, unlimited wardrobes for the entire family, paying for college for the kids, mowed the lawn every Saturday and includes a Brady Bunch neighbourhood, was well and truly over by the ’70’s, and really only ever existed in a small minority and other peoples dreams.
