Robin Hood: Boys shouldn't cry because crying indicates a loss of self control; this is inherently unmanly.
Bjorn Merkeland: Carl, crying is a natural sign of distress in humans. It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to not be okay sometimes. Its very easy to confuse crying and being emotionally open, which is my guess as to why men are statistically more likely to commit suicide.
Robin Hood: Yes, it is unmanly to be in distress.

You had better not be calling Kenshiro unmanly.

And if you want real life examples: according to legend, Alexander the Great cried when he realized there was no more world to conquer, and Cao Cao was inconsolable when Dian Wei was killed at the siege of Wan Castle.
That is not self-control. It is emotional repression.
Of course, there are emotions that are notably exempt from this need of "self-control", and they are the most harmful and directly destructive ones - emotions of aggression, lust and power, and especially the intersection of these fields. Indeed, men are encouraged, indeed shamed into, indulging these emotions without restraint. Their ideal of a man is a brutish skirt-chasing rude thinskinned pompous domineering egotistic ruthless reckless inconsiderate controlling violent abusive predatory arsehole.
And then, they have the audacity to claim that men are innately less emotional than women and consequently superior.
In the end, machismo really is nothing but a really nasty and toxic mindset that really needs to die.
You were electorally done up the arse last year, Arsegone of Sadact:

I trust you weren't in distress when you were previously banned from Twitter.
Especially when your absolute FAIL was pointed & laughed at: any subject can be the subject of a joke.
You said it, we didn't. Ergo, you being b&.
Oh right, including a poor bloke who’s son has been murdered, or his wife? I think it’s understandable, under some circumstances, especially if it helps said men deal with their grief.
Nobody would grieve though, filthy impostor, if the real Robin Hood put a few arrows through you.
“Robin Hood: Yes, it is unmanly to be in distress.”
Not really something you can control.
It’s not like anyone gets up and chooses the underwear they’ll see in the emergency room, then goes out and waits for a truck to slam into them. Or roots purposefully for the football team that’s going to lose the playoff.
Toxic Masculinity allows men to cry, but only when everyone around him cries, too. Watching an army invade, sports team wins or loses the ultimate sporting event of the season, wars start or end.
Meaning if his problems are restricted to his person, he’s to keep that shit bottled up like a cancer, show no weakness, and grill steaks until it’s time to go shoot up a concert.
Not a winning strategy for society, really.
Confused?
