Paying respects to the late Rosalynn Carter #announcement blog

As you have likely already heard, former US First Lady Rosalynn Carter passed away on Sunday. She was a very passionate mental-health and caregiver advocate, and those are both things that are close to my own heart for reasons that hit home for me. I’m posting this to pay my respects to her and ask you to keep the Carter family in your thoughts.

Even if it’s natural to die at 96, it’s still sad when good persons depart.

And I don’t think her husband will last for long: even before, he suffered from a terminal cancer, and when marriages which lasted for so long cease because of the death of one spouse, the other soon quickly follows: famous exemples are Elizabeth II and her husband Philip, Nixon and his wife Pat and Bush Sr. and his wife Barbara.

I was very sad to see that Rosalyn Carter had passed on. Not only am I also involved in mental health and have been a caregiver but I was also born during the Carter administration and it just makes me really feel how much time has passed and how things used to be so different.

Not always - a lot of times men die soon after their wives die, but wives don’t always die soon after their husbands. It has to do with who takes care of whom in our society. Husbands, especially of older generations, haven’t always known how to take care of themselves without their wives doing a lot of the work. Women, however, are usually taught how to cook and clean etc so they actually sometimes see their health improve after their husbands die as they don’t have anyone else to take care of and have more time for leisure activities (speaking of caregivers). Of course this isn’t always the case, it’s more a general trend.
