The only problem with homosexual priests is that they're not allowed a natural, safe, and consensual outlet for their desires. The problem is with the hierarchy that denies human sexuality. (And it's hardly a Catholic-only problem, nor a recent one -- Voltaire was writing about it two centuries ago.)
I bet the problem would be much smaller, if existent if you would let your religious leaders have sex. Obviously "God" must be ok with sex one way or another, or he'd have made another means of procreation. If marriage is required, fine, let them get married. Other major religions are having a fine time with married clergy.

You'd think that for all the major religions' talks of being persecuted, and of immorality and such, they'd be banding together rather than blaming each other...
And Antichrist: Two gay, highly sexually suppressed priests secretly falling in love with each other sounds like a good concept for a romance novella... Maybe we could call it Brokeback Cathedral or something.
Just maybe, if your church abandoned a middle-ages addition to dogma, and allowed priests to marry, like they did originally, much of the child abuse and sexual misconduct of the priesthood would vastly diminish.
Why ask this of a church that still performs exorcisms?

I would think that the mandatory celibacy and the institutional hatred of gays make the priesthood a perfect place for a gay man to hide his orientation.
It also makes the perfect place for someone who is terrified of adult sexuality to hide. That's where the pedophiles come from. Stop blaming gays for that.
This is an attempt to shift responsibility for the RC church's failure to deal honestly and adequately with a pedophile problem by diverting attention onto another group - gays.
Paedophiles may be gay, but the stats show that a very surprisingly high percentage of them (into the 90s% I believe) are actually straight men.
Equally the stats show that a very low percentage of gay men are paedophiles.
Beware of an attempt by the RC church to muddy the already murky waters. Scapegoating is never nice, but especially in the field of religion! Shifting of responsibility like this must be sinful and the cause of scandal!
All this shows is that the RC church is bankrupt of all morality.
